It's, uh...

It's actually kinda random who shows up here. And there's not any ransom or anything like that. They don't let us go.

Oh, so it's multiple people, and it's all random. Okay, random person, but where is here?

It's, uh...

[A pause as he tries to think of how to explain it]

Probably a space station? Or at least something inescapable. It's run by some people we've never met called the Consortium, and we undergo experiments run by this computer called Val. Sometimes they torture us, sometimes they just randomly mess with us.

I'm Alex, by the way.

[Stare. Blink. Stare.]

...Thaaat is definitely not an answer I was expecting.

I'm Wallace, and...did you actually just say this was a torture space station? Just making sure.

Yeah, that's... about the gist of it, I guess.

It never really gets easier to explain, honestly. Sorry. It, uh, it sucks.

Yeah, I think this tops the list of possible sucky situations. But it seems like you're holding up. I mean, you're not dead, and you don't have any gaping wounds.

Yeah, I mean, I'm relatively okay. I died once, but I came back. They do that here.

Oh, so we all get extra lives. That's cool. ...It also probably means they anticipate us dying a lot.

Yeah, they kinda do. I mean, some people've definitely died more than I have. People can get terminated for good, too, though, so... it's good to not try and die a lot.

Yeah, well, I guess you can only have so many lives. Not to jinx it, but I don't think I'm one to die in ridiculous ways all that often. I've watched it happen to a few people, from a distance. It's pretty funny when it happens to someone else, though I guess if it involves actual torture it would be a lot less funny.

Well, I mean, from a totally detached point of view, the time I died was pretty... uh, actually, funny, I guess. Getting killed by a zombie pony is ridiculous.

But not all of the experiments are torture. Some of them are just plain irritating.

[Wallace bursts out laughing. Yeah, that's more than a little funny.] Pffft! By what?!

Damn. This place might be fun.

Yeah, uh, there was this week where a zombie virus got loose and I decided to go kick some zombie ass and uh... well, long story short, a zombie pony up and killed me.

[A grin]

It can be kinda entertaining sometimes, I guess.

It's probably not the weirdest question I'm gonna end up asking today, but it still feels completely ridiculous to say this: are some of the captives here ponies?

and_another_war December 26 2011, 01:05:54 UTC
Yeah, they are... talking ponies.

...That's a result of these experiments, right? They made some ponies talk? That's a long shot, but you can't mean pretty pink cartoon talking ponies...
