I have a new-found respect for all of those who have learned to fight without magic. This is my first time being gold-collared, and it's...disorienting, and also a little terrifying, not having the powers that I normally have. My world always has magic flowing through it, so to suddenly lose all of that makes me realize how dependent we are on it.

[A few minutes later she's walking up. Noticeably different in her outfit today is the inclusion of gloves and a set of sturdy boots. She definitely came ready for this.]

[Kate's behind the house when Nami comes up, in costume. She's set up some crude targets, nothing professional but they're big enough that they'll do for a beginner. She's just putting up the last of them and looks up when she hears Namine, smiling a bit]

You look prepared.

[She gives her a small smile back.]

I noticed that you always wear these sort of things when you're in costume, so I decided to do the same.

They're to protect your arm and hands from the string. It can be rough on your fingers and sometimes you get backlash from it when you're shooting. Anyway, are you ready to start? Any questions first?

[She nods and then shakes her head.]

I'm ready.

[There was still the issue of where she would find her own bow, but she decides to deal with that later.]

[She nods]

Good. First thing is first. Which is your dominant hand? That's the hand you use to write and draw with. [She didn't really pay attention that time they drew together]

[She offers it out to Kate, waiting for further instruction.]

[She nods, kneeling down to get her bow and going over to Nami] Okay. So since your right is your dominant hand, you're going to hold the bow in your left with the string facing you. Put your hand on the grip like this. [She takes Namine's left hand and wraps it around the grip of the bow, placing her fingers in the finger grooves] And you'll use your right to pull the string back.

[Naminé nods, gripping the bow and lifting her right hand to try and pull the string. She isn't expecting there to be so much tension, though, and barely pulls it back.]

Mm....

[She gives Namine an encouraging smile, placing a hand on her shoulder]

Don't get discouraged. This is what practice is for. Try again.

Okay. [She gives Kate a small smile in return before trying again, pulling the string back farther now, testing its limits.]

Mhmm, exactly like that. Good job. The only thing I'd say you need to do differently is angle your elbow up just a little bit more.
