In light of the circumstances of this week, I feel as though it would be pertinent to ask if those of us who are still here are by any means aware of how many of us are still left. How many have pressed their buttons, on purpose and otherwise? Have we all considered the consequences of this action?
If the effects of the buttons indeed be malignant, and our friends return to us after the end of the week, I have compiled a short list of hopefully helpful things that we can do to help them out upon their return. I have had a couple of brief, albeit educational, stints enlisted in the Urban Rangers of my community, and being in such an organization and memorizing the handbook has taught me that in the event of a dire physical emergency, extreme caution and care are to be taken.
That being said.
1.) Are there people who are capable of treating others, if they come back with minor or major wounds? The latter seem to be fairly standard in this environment, so I am hoping that the answer to this question is "yes". Perhaps a simpler way to put this would be, "is there a doctor in the house?"
2.) Those of us who remain should perhaps divide into small subgroups who will be willing to look after those who return. Undoubtedly if they've faced some sort of extreme trauma, they will need a large amount of emotional support. Having friends nearby will help them immensely.
3.) I understand that some people here are prone to looting and pillaging the belongings of others. If you have done this to anyone who has pressed their button, accidentally or otherwise, please have a scrap of human decency and return their belongings immediately so that their rooms will be no less disturbed when they return.
4.) Keep your chins up! Positivity goes a very long way, even in the face of hopelessness. If we're all happy and smiling and we greet our friends with affection, they will be nothing but relieved.
On the other hand, in the event of them NOT returning...
I'm not quite sure what we should do. Let's not even consider that possibility unless it seems to be the proper one.
