Forty Fifth Guitar Solo - Eddie Riggs [Text]

May 16, 2011 13:50

Hope you kids didn't wanna watch the TV this week. The Television set sort of had an accident. Whoops. My bad.

If anyone needs me, I'm going to be in the forge. I'll be refining a few older tools and working on a few weapons. I'll probably be taking weapons orders today too. So if you want something, ask and we'll hash out details.

[When you axed the TV, Alessa was probably watching. Because she's been doing nearly nothing but watch it, or other TVs besides.

But now she's pushing the door to your forge, creeping inside with a worryingly blank look on her face.]

[The sound of his door creaking open, he looks up from his hammer wielding. Concern rising at the blank look on her face.] Alessa?

[Alessa doesn't respond immediately. Instead, she walks closer, eying the fire with an unreadable look in her eyes.]

...I wanted to watch. If you don't mind.

You spend a lot of time in here, so I wanted to see how you do it. [Or she wants a distraction. Same dif.]

I do mind. You shouldn't be watchin' any of that. [He gives the gentlest of chides as he looks down at his adopted daughter.]

Grab a seat, kiddo. I can't guarantee you'll be entertained by watchin' me work.

I wasn't talking about the TVs. [She doesn't need to apologize for that. She needed to watch that. She needed to witness the pain, needed to be desensitized, needed to use it to break down what cancerous personal grief that grew in her heart, the dangerous love and affection. Break down her humanity.

She didn't want the concept of a human being being hurt to disturb her. Not anymore. Not any human.]

Is there a way I can help? I can make more heat if you need it.

I know. I'm tellin' you not to watch the TV here and now. [He'll be breaking the TV the full week.] Consider it a retroactive warnin' bout me catchin' you watchin' that TV.

No, I'm good, kiddo. You can just talk to me, that'd be enough.

[Well, at least you'll most likely not see the clips of her on the TV. And you can't watch her 24/7. She'll go watch Droog's TV if she has to. >B| Going to her mobster friend, what now?] Why not? [Oh, right. And this is another weird cultural thing. Why don't you want your baby exposed to as much violence as possible, roadie? 8( ]

I'd like to talk to you. It's nice in here. [Minus, you know, the fire. It's an interesting juxtaposition--the scent of her father and his sweat, but also of that unmistakable nightmarish smell, the smell of smoke and fire.]

You've already seen enough dark shit in your life. So don't watch it. [His scolding is a little harsher now. He does sigh a little since he is not good at this dad thing.] You know I just wanna make sure you're okay, kiddo. S'all.

Its usually nicer when Sasha's runnin' the show in here. Lot less hammerin' noises for sure. [Eddie is half joking with that, he bringing the hammer down again on a tool he has settled in front of him.]

[Alessa sits down, hugging her knees and watching him hammer.] Do you think I'll ever really be okay?

I don't mind the noise. It's nice. [Something to keep her ears rooted in the mortal world. It was always good to have earthly noise to help remind herself that the ethereal voices aren't really all that's there.] What kind of things do you usually make here? Just knives and swords, or is there more?

You will. I'm pretty sure of it, kiddo. [He throws a smile back in her direction before he focuses on bringing the hammer down again, pounding out any kinks left over in the tool he's working on.]

Usually just weapons, but I do make other things. Gonna work on two guitars soon enough. Just needed to make sure my tools work still. [He stops working for a moment, wiping his brow as he stands up fully.] I did make somethin' a little out of my comfort zone, though. You wanna see it?

[Alessa gives him a nod, but her expression still doesn't shift from its blank state.] I'd like to see. I'm sure it's really neat.

Well, I think its pretty neat. Dunno what you'll think bout it. [He wipes his hands off on his jeans, moving to Sasha's desk, pulling a small wooden box out of under it. He moving to sit down next to Alessa on the floor. Unveiling the fact he's holding a music box. The finish isn't as professional or fancy as one would expect, but it is obviously something Eddie made.

He undoes the metal clasp he made and pops open the top. A tinkling version of this song starting up as he smiles somewhat back at his would be daughter.] I tried to find a song you didn't know, so it'd help you relax after a nightmare.

[Okay, Roadie Dad, you earn an expression. Her eyebrows shoot up, staring at the little music box. Then her mouth opens to speak, then closes, then opens again, one hand tentatively reaching out to touch the surface of the box.]

For... for me...?

All yours. [He confirms with a wider smile. He giving her a moment to feel the surface of the box before he gently passed it over to her.]

[Her lip wobbles a little as she takes it, placing it very carefully on her lap, like it was made of glass, and she opened it experimentally, listening to the music. Then she wiped her eyes quick, trying to work a lump out of her throat, and gestured for him to kneel down to her level.]

[Which he does, he doesn't need to be encourage to kneel twice. Raising a curious brow back at her gesture.]
