2nd Crack in the Universe // Amy Pond

Apr 05, 2011 20:49

[The feed opens on Amy’s rather annoyed face. Her hair is slightly matted and there are a few smears of grime on her face.]

Alright, is anyone there? This is definitely not the facility.

[The camera shakes a bit as she sits down heavily on a giant tire. The view zooms out some to show the expanses of the junk yard behind her.]

Does anyone know how I ( Read more... )

Got it in one, Sherlock. I see you've found the junkyard.

[Grin]

Funny, you're the first person I've seen there who wasn't awash in beloved memories of a lost time.

Want a hand out of there?

Awash with beloved memories? It's a rubbish heap.

[She glances around herself for a moment, an unamused look on her face.]

What would be beloved about this? And an explanation of where we are and some directions would be helpful.

Well, we're in facility three. It's a place that simulates an outside environment. In this case, it's a castle surrounded by a city surrounded by a junkyard surrounded by a maze.

There are illusions in the junkyard for most people. I don't exactly know why, but people will see objects from their memories in the junk, like a... Teddy bear or something.

Can you see the walls of the city?

Well, there sure is plenty of stuff here.

[She peers around for a moment.]

I don't see anything, but the piles are rather high.

Well, if you do see something, ignore it. It's not real. I don't want to concern you, but most of those little piles have dead people under them, who were trying to carry all the "priceless artifacts" from their memories with them. It's better to just leave it alone.

[Her eyes widen and all expression seems to drop off her face.]

Did you say d-dead people?

[Here eyes slowly look down at the junk beneath her feet but she stays abnormally quiet.]

yes. Very thoroughly dead, so there's no need to worry about them. Keep your head clear, though, and don't forget they're there. Leaving the area and heading towards the city might also be a good idea. Can you see the roofs from where you are?

[There is no way she's forgetting that now.] I don't see anything. Just more rubbish. Maybe if I climb up higher... [Her voice trails off as she starts to scale the nearest mound, trying to keep the camera as steady as possible.] So how big is this place?

harry_b_dresden April 13 2011, 03:17:06 UTC
Well, I'd say the city's probably a couple square miles, the junkyards only around 200 yards wide, but it adds up... factoring in the mazes, which is not the way you want to go, by the way.. I dunno, pretty darn big. Size of Manhattan, maybe?

Good idea. Some of those mounds are pretty high, and the city's got walls and such, shouldn't be too hard to spot.

I've never been to Manhattan. [Her tone is colloquial. There's a pause as she reaches the crest of the mound and looks around.]

There. I think I see it. Big walls, kind of round? I think there's a gate too.

Well, I could have maybe guessed that, but I didn't have a better comparison. Wales? Is Wales really small? I only ever visit Edinburgh for the White Council meetings, and I don't usually have time for sightseeing.

That's the place. Easiest way in is to find a convenient section of wall and just climb, or come in the gate quietly and the Goblins won't give you any trouble.

Climb the wall? That's going to be a bit difficult. [Why did she have to wear a skirt?] Gate sounds like a better option. So do we know where exactly this place is? What facility 3 is simulating? Because I'm assuming it's a real place, just copied.

I don't know, but there's a faerie in charge of it, so we must be somewhere in the nevernever. Or, a projection of it. Whatever.

I didn't read the write up. Or... skimmed it. Sort of.

Faeries? Really? Do they do magic and such?

[A slight cough.] Yeah. Same here.

Oh yeah. Great magic. The kind that kidnaps children and leaves anyone trying to come reclaim them dead. I'm afraid faeries aren't exactly soft and cuddly, there's a reason they still dominate the nevernever even after most human belief in them has dried up.

So much for my childhood stories, then? But I guess there are lots of stories when faeries aren't so nice. Do you deal with them often? You seem pretty knowledgeable.
