Let us all bow our heads and take a moment to remember not just a man, but an icon of American Film...Pat Morita.
Ok, well "icon of American Film" aside...I'm actually quite ignorant to most of his film career. He, of course, endeared himself to my generation and me in his role of the handyman/karate guru Mr. Miyagi. I was so obsessed with that movie as a kid that I still hold a very special place in my heart for it today (and can still quote it beginning to end). Oh, the lessons I learned! You will be missed Mr. Miyagi. Sayonara Pat Morita.
And now for something completely different...
I need to rant a little bit about something I heard on KTCU last night. Now, I love some college radio sometimes. Especially at night when they play the good shit. I appreciate the "outside the norm" music mentality that these kids have. That being said. Oh my god...they're idiots. I cringe every time they talk in between songs. It would be one thing if they were talking about the music, and giving me some info on the bands and such...but lately it's just "let's prattle on about something ridiculous, and try to seem cool." Actually, it's kind of endearing in a way...BUT I draw the line at misinformation.
I was driving home from work last night, listening to KTCU. They were playing The Zutons when I first got in the car. Ok, cool. Now...song's over. The guy says something to the effect of "Ok, now I think I'm gonna play some Christmas music. It's getting to be close to the season.." blahblahblah "Here's a song that I really like a whole lot. It's by this band Senseless (something?). Here it is... Happy Christmas (war is over)."
*cringe* Please tell me that this person (who I generally respect his tastes in music) doesn't think that this Senseless something did this song first...
I will admit, that it was a good cover. I mean...really? How could you fuck this song up?
DJ came back on after the song restating "and that was...blahblahblah...Great song. You can only hear it here on KTCU." The other kids in the studio in the background- "Oh yeah, that song IS a cool song. It rocks!"
I REALLY hope that the kids know. I couldn't tell. How could you NOT know? By the way he was talking about it, it really sounded like he thought this band did it first. I just realized that I sound like a snob, but shit. It angered me so.
I really hope John Lennon isn't rolling over in his grave.
