I haven't updated in a while, but really...there hasn't been much going on.
However, there is one big sparkling gem of news. I'm an Aunt now. Hurray! My sister, Molly, gave birth to a beautiful baby boy on June 23rd.
So, I set out last Saturday for Shreveport to see my sister, brother-in-law, and baby Ben. The drive was fairly uneventful until I hit Terrell, TX. Then,lo, the skies opened up and rained down destruction. Unfortunately, my wheels couldn't take this thunderous act of God. So, I ended up pulling over on the side of the road, getting out in the rain, and finding that the tread was peeling off my tire. Great. Thankfully, I could still drive on it...so I went up the road to a gas station, found info on the nearest tire place, and rolled up in there without my tire giving. Sweet baby Jesus! I must now commence the praising of C&T tires (Terrell, TX). I pulled up, guy said "Need a new tire?" I said "Yes." He said "New or Used?" I said "Used, please." He said "Ok!" By the time I finished ONE cigarette, the tire was on the car, $30 bucks was paid, and I was ready to roll. I have NEVER been to a tire place that handled business that fucking fast. FYI- If you're ever stuck around there needing a tire...PLEASE give them your business.
Rest of the drive was fine.
So I saw my precious new nephew. He's the first grandchild/nephew on our side AND her husband's...so this baby is already spoiled rotten. At the hospital, so many people came up and it became a game of pass the baby. I think next time she has a child, she's going to limit it to immediate family only. She said that she felt she missed out on part of the bonding process because the baby was being handled so much. I agree totally. Babies tend to bring out the selfish side of people, I noticed. "I want to hold, I want to touch, I want to help change, I want, I want, I want..." Egads. I know it's not malicious behavior, but geez. Even our immediate family (myself included) got a little baby crazy. I need to learn to back off and let my sister have her moment. Overall, though, it was a great time. Benjamin Thomas is beautiful and healthy and I can't wait to be "The cool Aunt."
