Ginny Weasley realised at a young age that she couldn’t afford the luxury of being a girl. Blatantly she still was a girl, and she still had to do girly things, but to all intents and purposes she was just a seventh son.

She’d just turned four when she’d had this epiphany, a victim of the twins’ pranks. Granted, they were only six, so they lacked the finesse that another ten years practise would bring, but it was still enough to send Ginny running in floods of tears. Not looking where she was going, she tripped and was caught by the strong arms of fourteen-year-old Bill. After setting her down and wiping her tears, Bill gave her some advice.

“Listen Ginny, the twins are always going to be bigger than you and stronger than you. Merlin knows they’re always going to be mischievous little buggers, so the only thing you’ve got going for you is your brain, d’you hear me?”

Ginny nodded, her face solemn. Without knowing it, Bill’s words had spawned the long years of broom theft, the refinement of the Bat Bogey Hex and a strong woman who could handle Voldemort in her head without losing her mind.
