First Sun to remake 'Suspiria'
Original screens in Cannes
By ADAM DAWTREY
CANNES -- New Italian production outfit First Sun has acquired the rights to remake Dario Argento's classic 1977 horror movie "Suspiria" as an English-language film.

The original is screening Friday at Cannes to celebrate the 30th anniversary of its release.

First Sun has been founded by director Luca Guadagnino ("Melissa P."), fashion designer Silvia Venturini Fendi and producers Carlo Antonelli, Marco Morabito and Massimilano Violante. The company says it will develop films with an international scope, inspired by the golden age of Italian filmmaking.

" 'Suspiria' has a unique style that we want to reinvent for today's generation," Guadagnino said. "We intend to create a concept that will encompass cinema, videogames, fashion and music and that revives the original for those who did not experience it. The Gothic resurgence is very strong around the world at the moment ... and we feel that a new version of 'Suspiria' will fit very well."
