[AL] March Prompt - Winter Trees

Mar 22, 2007 14:36

“John, get back here now!” Henry shouted as the 6 year old ran at the speed of light out of the door. He growled with frustration and pulling on the nearest pair of boots, reached for his hat and ran out after him. Everywhere was white, the snowflakes clinging to the trees and still falling, making everywhere so pure and so beautiful. The wind whipped against his shirt and he began shivering almost immediately, cursing the fact that he hadn’t put a jacket on.

“John?” he shouted, only to be greeted by silence.

“John, if you don’t get in here now I’m going to get angry!” his voice was firm, measured, his eyes scanning around him, trying to work out where his son was.

Suddenly something hit him rather hard on his back and he swung round, his eyes narrowing. John stood there, in his pyjamas, a snowball and a wicked grin on his face;

“Got you!” he grinned, throwing the other snowball, laughing as Henry moved out of the way, reaching down to pick up a handful of snow.

“Oh no, you don’t!” Henry laughed throwing the snowball and watching as it hit John square in the chest. John wiped the snow off of him and laughed again, his eyes lighting up with happiness and mischief as he scooped up another handful of snow and threw it, narrowly missing his father by a few inches.

The game went on like this for many minutes, each throwing and dodging snow until finally John sped off again, Henry in hot pursuit. It didn’t take long until he caught up with the youngster, grabbing him and pulling him close to his body, shovelling snow down his back, causing the boy in his grasp to shriek loudly and try to get away.

“Got you!” he said into the boys ear, before he picked him up properly and carrying him inside to get warm.
