Wizards and reincarnation
Fandoms: Vampire Diaries (TV show), Harry Potter
Rating: PG
Genre: crossover, oneshot
Characters/Pairings: Caroline/Lucius
Any warnings: none. This is really totally AU.
Disclaimer: Vampire Diaries (TV show) and Harry Potter and its characters aren’t mine. I only write fan fiction for fun and entertainment.
A/N: Just experimenting with different fandoms. I was thinking about this pairing... and I must admit that it is much more a crack-pairing than something to be taken serious... lol.
A/N2: Lucius is kind of ageless in my mind... as a wizard I expect him to age different (if at all) than normal humans. Having said that, I really love the concept of reincarnation... especially reincarnation of lovers...

He wasn’t really what she expected her husband to be...
When she was small she dreamed of a man who would sweep her of her feet like Prince Charming did in Cinderella. She imagined him to be young, handsome and dashing. Everything a future husband and probably a prince too, to be.
So, when she one day opened her door to find an imposing tall and yet slender blond man in front of her, claiming to be her husband in a past life, she firstly laughed, then closed the door in his face. Having years ago received the knowledge of vampires and the secrets of Mystic Falls, Caroline Forbes was nothing if not cautious.
When the door minutes later magically unlocked and the man stepped inside, without invitation, she came to understand that while he was not a vampire he wasn’t purely human either.
“What are you?” she had asked when she saw her door close behind him, without anyone actually physically closing it. Nor was there a breeze that could have moved the door on its own.
“My name is Lucius Malfoy. I am your husband from a previous life.” When she had just started at him with wide unbelieving eyes and an O shaped mouth he added, “And I am a wizard.”
A clack had underlined her closing her mouth. She had licked her lips and then motioned with her index finger ‘just a minute’.
So, the first reaction to a presumably ‘other-life’ husband wasn’t really normally going off to find liquor, but then again, things like these didn’t really normally occur either.
She, in the first few days that followed this rather strange new development, never thought that she could even develop a friendship with Lucius. More than once his arrogance got in the way of her sympathy for him, irritation and frustration replacing it. And more than once she found herself only half way through the day and ready to strangle him...
But Lucius Malfoy had a certain way of knowing just what to say to her in times of stress and need for comfort. He surprised her by actually sticking around in Mystic Falls for her sake, even though he repeatedly stated his disdain for the modern American culture.
It was friendship at first she was willing to offer him. She knew it wasn’t what a man flying in from England wanted but she told him it was the only thing she could offer him. And he willingly took her up on her offer. They started a routine of going out, sometimes staying at her home and just talk, or taking a walk together in which he’d tell her a little about the world he was from and what it was like to live in ‘the wizarding world’.
Somewhere along the way her feelings of friendship for him turned into something more. It wasn’t until another month after her self-revelation of being in love with him that Caroline actually made the move. Yes, in a relationship as strange as theirs he had been willing to even put the pace and power into her fragile hands. And it helped his cause very much. She was now happily married to him, and travelling back to England, so that he could show her his world; which he never tired of pointing out was much more civilised than Mystic Falls...
