She’s keeping to the shadows, making sure no one notices her. Like a thief in the night, she thinks, that’s how she is trying to make her exit. But hopefully no one will see her, and then she’ll go home, barricade her door and hope that the monsters stay out and not come for her.
She hears the sounds of fighting, and she knows that she can still turn around and help. She’ll just need to pick a side that she’ll fight for.
Her steps falter. She turns around. Somehow she expects her father or mother to stand behind her, with a cross expression, telling her that she must fight for their side. But no one is behind her. No one is standing with her in this shady alley as she is making her exit.
She hears a scream over the sounds of fighting. It’s a man, and she can clearly hear his words. She shudders.
She turns around fully now, and makes her way back to the fighting. She knows that she’ll probably not survive this battle, she never was that strong at ‘Defence against Dark Arts’.
But this time she is determined. She tells herself that she’d rather die fighting than live her life safe and as a coward. And so she makes her way back the way she’s come from, to her fate.
The great battle.
