A/N: Another Caroline-centric fic. Although in this one she might not come off very nicely... well, suck it up, she is after all a 3D person, with good and bad characteristics.

She always got the things that Caroline wants; toys, candy, friends, boys. Things come natural to her best friend. She doesn’t need to try, just starts to bat with her eyelashes and then all the world falls to their knees in front of the brunette.
It’s not fair because Caroline always has to work hard only to achieve half of what Elena gets without trying.
Matt for example is one thing that Caroline is still fighting to maintain. He’s nice and supportive and everything; but he tends to work over time, and is spending less and less time with her. He takes her for granted and she knows that if she had been Elena, he would have made himself time for her.
He wouldn’t have expected her to put up with the late night visits as the only time to see him. He would probably have showed her daily that he appreciated her. Loved her.
But that is only one of the things that Caroline sometimes resents about being second best to her best friend.
Sometimes she wonders why she even stays friends with Elena. She contemplates that if she wasn’t friends with her, maybe she’d finally be able to step out of the ‘Elena’-shadow that she has now lived in for years.
It just wasn’t fair that some people got everything without even trying, while others had to fight for every scrap of happiness. She had to fight for every scrap of happiness.
It just wasn’t fair.
