Saving him…
She sat inside her cubicle. The phone was ringing. The office was busy. And she should be working like the little busy bee that she was hired to be.
Instead she reread the text message she had gotten from a man she thought wouldn’t hear again from. She was toying with her keys as she reread the last line.
Please come back to me.
She could almost imagine his sad face. She could almost see his sad eyes that were always covered up because else he wouldn’t be able to control his devastating powers that could destroy a whole city at will.
She could imagine him sitting in his room and mourning the loss of two women he loved. The first he’d lost due to her selfless act to save them. The second woman he had lost due to his own insecurities and shutting himself off from others.
Chloe knew that Scott loved her. His love for her had always been present in his acts if not in words. But whenever she tried to push for more, he’d shut himself off from her. It got to a point that Chloe had told him, approximately 6 weeks ago, he should give her a call when he was prepared to start a real relationship with her. She had left the X-men that day.
She was looking at the text message again. A lot of questions swirled around in her mind. Did she still love him? Would Chloe really be able to leave everything just because Scott called for her?
Her concerned face melted to a smiling one. She packed her things up, and shut-down the computer before her. She picked up the ringing phone and said: “Try it later again, I need to go somewhere.”
Chloe took the car keys into her hands. Put on her jacket. Pocketed her cell phone and left her small working cubicle.
She was returning to Scott and the X-Men. She knew that he needed her, loved her and she was determined to save him from his self-destructing behaviour that he was sure to be doing now.
