Drabble: mother

Her real father was not a nice man. He hated those that were different from them. That was the reason why he had left her and her mother after her birth. He believed his daughter to be a normal human, without the mutation in the X gene, which made them special.
He tried to argue with his then wife to get rid of the child, leave it in foster care and hope that nice normal parents would adopt her. When she had resisted he had given her an ultimatum. Leave the child or leave him.
He never doubted her love for him, until their child was born that is. His wife Moira had chosen to stay with Chloe and left the brotherhood. Magneto never tried to contact his wife or child again. He ignored their being alive and concentrated on the brotherhood and their goals.
Chloe never believed that she would hear from him again. Until the day her mother was buried. Gabe had long left and she was standing there alone. She had sensed him, and waited for him to near her, but he didn’t. He just stood there, a great distance away and looked at the gravestone with a sad expression.
She understood then that she herself still didn’t exist for him. But her mother had never ceased to exist in his universe. And that hurt, because she knew that in her mothers he did too.
