delightful abode

i am so sick of slumlord apartment life. not only do my upstairs neighbours continue to be enormously loud all the time; my landlord has obviously decided that now that spring is here, shutting off the building furnace is a good idea. just because we have a couple of days above 0º celsius, does not mean that it is warm enough to turn the heat off ( Read more... )

Do you pay Hydro? Can you get a space heater? Or move?

i do pay hydro, which has what has deterred me from getting a space heater. why should i have to pay the extra power cost to heat my apartment when heat is supposed to be included in my rent?!

i will move when i can afford it, and when i know i can survive a credit check on a new apartment. until then, i will continue to slum it up.

I totally understand.

I'm in a similar place, with regards to credit checks. THANK YOU EX HUSBAND. Maybe you could get a sublet and then just renew the lease?

i might not renew my lease this summer. i might just go month to month until i can find a new place. come october, i can start rebuilding my credit 'cause my consumer proposal with be over. then i will be in a better position to find a nicer place to live.

That sucks about your credit, but have you even tried to get a place? Your current apartment clearly sucks balls, and I don't know that apartment buildings are as stringent about credit checks as you think...especially if you agree to preauthorized payments on your rent.

I'm sure you could find a place, if you traded off more travel time... Depends how important location is to you

MORE travel time?! i already travel almost an hour each way to and from work. if i keep working at the same location i think i will eventually try to move closer to work.

UGH! why is affordable and good housing such an impossible find?
i feel yer pain!

because landlords know that there is always an affordable housing shortage, so they can charge an arm and a leg for a slum, and people will rent it because what other choice do you have? live on the street?

I hate apartment life, even when I lived in that townhouse in Nepean that wasn't even close to slummy.

This house might have more bugs in the basement than I'd like, but I never hear the neighbours.
