HBP 19: Elf Tails

Sep 02, 2005 22:10

Harry, Hermione, Fred, George, and Ginny gather around Ron's bed int he hospital wing. Fred and George had been in Hogsmeade to look into buying Zonko's and to surprise Ron on his Birthday. Well, um... Surprise! They all speculate on what could have happened, Ron croaks -_-' and Hagrid makes a hasty entrance. (He was reading to Aragog.) ( Read more... )

Someone has to say it:

Harry, however, had never been less interested in Quidditch; he was rapidly becoming obsessed with Draco Malfoy.

My favourite fanfic tease!

(Swoons again.)

I do think Harry's dimness about Draco's disappearances is just that bit beyond suspension-of-disbelief. After all, he'd made a lot of use of the Room of Requirement himself in the previous year.

My favourite fanfic tease!

Oh, and there's this:
" 'Where have you been?' demanded Ginny, as Harry sprinted into the changing room. The whole team was changed and ready; [...]
'I met Malfoy,' Harry told her quietly, as he put his scarlet robes over his head.'

Yes! Yum.
Can you not just imagine the look on Ginny's face?!

Yes, awesome imagery for the fanboys/girls *lol*
(and it's cannon, too! She wrote it)

There more I think about it, the more I shake my head and wonder about this very fanfic-like description of the romantic relationships and scenes like those that are not intended to be romantic in any way, but can be easily interpreted as such.

And then JKR wonders about all these different shippers...

This was one of the things that made me think there was something wrong or going on. I mean just about EVERY fanfic pairing is addressed. Is this just a big joke? She's either lost her mind, made great big mistakes, is trying to be funny, or is doing it on purpose. -_-'

All of the above? =D I dunno, I found it cute, but hugely annoying after a while. I kept thinking of all those shipping arguments: "the HP series is NOT all about romance, it's not like we're reading Dawson's Creek"; when the majority of this book played out like something out of a soap opera.

She's having entirely too much fun with us.

Ah, thanks for posting this line. It just has to be pointed out. I mean, was there a single person who did not think this was a "hello, fandom, here is a plotbunny for endless fanfictions of yours, yours, truly, JKR" message ?

I actually liked the "between the lines, behind closed doors" kind of subplot with Draco. There were always a few sentences thrown in between the other plots to remind us that there is something going on with Draco. Very subtle and thus in stark contrast to other subplots, like the romance, and there especially the "roaring beast" in Harry's stomach. (I'll roll my eyes forever at this line)

Sorry, that roaring beast was waaaaay lower than Harry's stomach. Okay, maybe *thinks* 8-12 inches ;)

Hey, I was thinking the absolute same thing when reading this line. I mean, didn't everybody ?

Also, this is the part that sounds most like a really embarrassing bad-fic to me ...
