It's ironic that Dumbledore shares with Voldemort the mistake of continually underestimating Harry.

True, and I think that something else they share is that for both of them the end justify any means and that they both seek and achieve control (Dumbledore doesn't use intimidation to achieve control, which just proves that he's smarter-he got control by making people believe that he always knows better, and even though there are evidance to indicate otherwise, once people decided he's always right they don't question this belief).
I don't think Dumbledore is evil or has evil goals, but the wrong thing is still wrong even when it's a mean to a good end.

I think this chapter proves that there is plenty of blame to go around and that it extends all the way to Dumbledore. Harry finally learns that Dumbledore isn't wise or all-knowing; in fact, DD is incredibly fallible and even Machiavellian in his determination to shepherd Harry in whatever ways HE (DD) thinks are necessary so that Harry can eventuallly grow up and fulfill the prophecy. I think this chapter really is the nail in the coffin for Harry's respect for Dumbledore. I can't wait to see what Harry's thoughts are about his and DD's relationship in HBP.

I really hope you are right. I always had the feeling, after the end of the fifth book, but JKR is going with Dumbledore as a good gut who usually made the right thing and just made I mistake, and I really hope I'm wrong. I think the books now have the potential of being more than just children adventure book, if all the subject that started will be finally dealt with. Like how wrong it is to have too much power, especially over someone's elses live and the emotinal effects of things on Harry. I'll love harry finally resisting Dumbledore and standing up to him. But with they way OotP ended, with Harry feeling so thankful about their pathetic gesture, after forcing him, again, to teturn to his private hell after loosing Sirius, I just don't see it happeining. But one can always hope.
