OotP: Chapter 29 - Career Advice

Jun 30, 2005 23:29

Harry is still worrying over what he saw in the Penseive while Hermione is worrying over Harry not having any more Occlumency Lessons. Harry really just wants to talk to Sirius and Ginny thinks she may be able to help him. In the meantime, 5th years are being scheduled for Career Advice Sessions with their Heads of House. While the trio are sorting through various career pamphlets, Fred and George pop in to announce a solution to Harry's "Sirius" problem. If it's one thing the twins are good at, it's a diversion. Harry spends a rather disgruntled day waiting for that diversion and almost forgets his appointment with Professor McGonagall. He sprints back down to her office only to find the Professor already has a guest. -_-' (hemhem! gag...) Oh, to be a fly on the wall... McGonagall and Her Toadishness square off in a battle of wits and will on the field that is Harry's future. I'm sure Harry is most comfortable with this notion. Luckily for him, McGonagall is fully armed in both intellect and obstinacy and backs him in his hope of becoming an Auror. Umbridge just coughs a lot. Eventually, Harry escapes the office as the volume level raises to, er, less than civil heights. (McGonagall: WIN!)

It's finally time for Fred and George to produce their diversion. And a beautiful diversion it is. Harry hastily makes his way to Umbridge's office under his father's invisibility cloak and uses Sirius' knife to open the door. Second later he has his head in the fire and is waiting for Remus to fetch Sirius. He tells them about what he saw but if he was hoping for some kind of explanation or reassurance one was not forthcoming.

"Of course he was a bit of an idiot!" said Sirius bracingly. "We were all idiots!"
Oh, dear... Harry's left to ponder this for a bit when Remus asks him how Snape reacted to Harry swimming in his memories. Harry tells them about Snape refusing to give him Occlumency lessons and both men are greatly concerned. Remus makes him promise to talk to Snape about the lessons. Then Harry hears Filch gimping his way to Umbridge's office to get "Approval for Whipping" documents. o.O!? Harry follows him out under the Invisibility cloak only to spot Fred and George trapped like rabbits in the entrance. But, well, the twins aren't known for being "rabbity."

"Give her hell from us Peeves."
