OotP Chapter 20 - Hagrid's Tale
"With a great leap of his heart, Harry saw little golden squares of light ahead and smoke coiling up from Hagrid's chimney."
At long last Hagrid has returned to Hogwarts and our trio are anxious to meet with the Ground's Keeper to find out where he has been. When Hagrid answers his door Hermione screamed alerting all present to Hagrid's exact condition. The details of his mangled face indicate that Hagrid has been on a dangerous mission and the trio set out to interigate poor Hagrid. The trio are very concerned about Hagrid's condition which he tries to hide and lie about and Ron keeps badgering him that he looks in a right state.
Hagrid and Harry trade stories about their summers being attacked by dementors and greeting giants. We learn that the muggles cannot see giants and that wizards have chased them out of Britain and deep into the mountains somewhere. Hagrid explains why it took a month to get where he and Madame Maxime were going. Speaking of Madame Maxime it appears that Hagrid and dear Olympia have grown into a full blown relationship on their little trek during the summer.
Hagrid enjoys spinning his gruesome tale and we learn that the giants are a really angry bunch until the Umbridge troll shows up. She informs Hagrid that she is the new DADA Professor and Hogwarts High Inquisitor. Hagrid does a decent job of answering her questions and she is on her way. The chapter ends with Hermione doing some more impressive charm work using an Obliteration Charm to wipe away any trace of their steps in the snow.
