Well, recently I got home from a little drive into town, and LOW AND BEHOLD, the Boy Scouts of America have once again places their annual plastic bag with a plea for food in it.
Guy on the right's got the right idea.
Now.
I absolutely ADORE giving to charities, don't get me wrong. I just...have trouble supporting assholes like the Boy Scouts. Don't get me wrong, it's awesome to learn about the wilderness and how to tie a knot and when to call 911, but I really can't have any part of an organization that won't have anything to do with me, and it isn't the only one! The Red Cross is also notoriously prejudiced against gay men.
-If you are a woman who had sex with a man who has had sex with another man since the year of 1978, you can't give blood for a year I believe.
-If you are a man who has had sex with another man you are banned for life from donating blood to the Red Cross.
Not to mention the political arena is pretty tough, if not impossible, to break into if you are an out lesbian, gay man or bisexual. It's hard enough if you aren't Christian, let alone fucking someone with the same genitalia as you! You're politically screwed.
I can't be a Scout Leader, because I'm gay.
I can't give blood to SAVE LIVES, because I'm gay.
Lame. Therefore this year, as with every year, I will be donating to a nonreligious, nonjudgemental food pantry in my community. As for the blood and the politics, it's tragic, really, because we lose so many lives and make so many bad decisions for our country. All because a lot of us believe in hate and bigotry.
I realize that they are private organizations and that they don't have to follow anti-discrimination laws and practices, but they should be teaching children better than that.
So lame.
