So, under the much needed push from my amazing friend Maria, I've decided to start giving back to my community. I've set up a station in our kitchen with a stolen Shaws shopping basket and a piece of paper taped to the back of the chair it sits on labelled: "Food Pantry".

Now every time I take a trip to the grocery store, I pick up three items to contribute to the cause. So far I've got 3 cans of green beans, and a can each of white beans, red beans, kidney beans and mixed veggies.

Seriously though, canned vegetables run you between 59 cents to a 1.50, depending on what you get, and it's a really easy way to be more healthy and contribute to a good cause if instead of buying that six pack or that Coke or those cookies...you buy a few cans of beans or a bag of pasta or some peanut butter for your local food pantry.

Here's the address of the food pantry I'm contributing to in my area:

New Horizons For NH
199 Manchester Street
Manchester, NH
03103
(603)668-1877
fax: 603.668.2578

Here's their wish list:

Diapers
Baby Formula
Peanut Butter
Jelly
Baked Beans
Macaroni & Cheese
Canned Goods
Tomato Sauce
Pasta
Tuna

Go on their website to few the wishlists for the shelter, soup kitchen and day programs as well. ALSO, volunteers and monetary donations are ALWAYS appreciated.

I called up the food pantry as well and asked how to go about donating food, and the guy said to park in the parking lot and go on up to the side door and ring the bell. So don't tell me it's too difficult to donate ;]

I'm also going to go through all my clothes and weed out the stuff I no longer desire/fit into and donate those items to a local thrift store that benefits the poor called Family Outfitters.

Family Outfitters
394 Second Street
Manchester, NH
03103

Their donation hours are Monday-Saturday 11am-4pm. Nothing wrecked, please. A general rule of thumb is to ask yourself "would I give this to a friend or family member?"

They take donations of:
1. Furniture - functional and without stains, tears or unpleasant odor.
2. Housewares - dishware, pots & pans, utensils, small appliances.
3. Domestics - blankets, linens, curtains, etc.
4. Clothing - infant, children, women and men.

They DO NOT accept donations of: (for liability and/or cost issues)
1. Infant furniture, car seats and strollers.
2. Stuffed animals and toys.
3. Sofa Beds
4. Large appliances, microwaves, console stereos, or TV's older than 7 years (no console TV's).
5. Broken, stained, wet, torn, or foul-smelling donations of any kind.
6. Large metal desks

Just throw the clothes through the wash first and make sure there isn't anything nasty about anything you're donating.

Anyways...I hope you all do something as well, and not just because it's November. It's nice to donate during the Thanksgiving/Holiday Season...but it's admirable to continue the practice throughout the whole year.
