Avatar & Sherlock Holmes Thoughts

Dec 29, 2009 04:05

Since anything said may be spoilerish....I shall put a LJ-cut as not spoil anyone. :D Far warning, Fangirling ahead.  Mostly for Sherlock Holmes. Avatar is more serious business (though awesome too)

AVATAR
First off, LOVED IT. ZOMG. So freaking much. Fangirling aside, it was a very visually stunning movie. There were points in the movie you were almost convinced it was Live Action and not CGI.  Personally, I loved how believable the movie was. The Science, Pandora (the Alien Planet) with its beauty, just..everything.  Especially if you see it in 3D. You become very engrossed in the film. It's pretty much like the movie Fern Gully, but with more awesome effects and a more indepth look to the events going on. Throughout the movie, I was prone to cheering for the Na'avi and cursing out the Humans. (well. most of the Humans, seeing as a small handfull proved to be awesomesauce in the long run..)

Is it meant to be a slap in the face to everyone? Yes. It showers the message on how our race has become overly greedy and has started to consume our planet, destroying as we go...not giving a damn about Earth or other species native to it as well. I can only hope that it helps be a wake-up call for some.

Sherlock Holmes
I need to get this off my chest. Therefore,HOLY CRAP ON A CRACKER, COULD HOLMES AND WATSON BE GAYER WITH EACH OTHER???!!! SERIOUSLY. SLASHY  GOODNESS EVERYWHERE. It wasn't even subtle. I mean, okay, yeah..I'll admit I throw on the slash googles a lot. BUT. This was so obvious that even my friend and my cousin who were with me, turned and asked if Holmes and Watson were gay. and when they were going to just get it over with and make-out.  The slashiness wasn't even qualifiable to the Bromance catergory. Just...whooooa.

That aside, I was pretty damn impressed by this movie. It was actually a lot better than I thought it would be.  The cast was awesome, and the plot had its own interesting twists. Plus, its rather enjoyable because the view gets switched to Holme's inner voice now and then, so you see it from his perspective.  At first the Supernatural storyline had me rolling my eyes, (it's been beaten to death lately in everything..) but when it turned into SCIENCE, WE'RE DOING IT, it became much more appealing. Blackwood was pretty damn creepy, if not creative for a villian. Though I was pretty damned annoyed with the ending, because THEY LEAVE YOU HANGING. Mystery Boss of Irene is never revealed. Sure, you hear his voice..but you never actually see his face!  Which bugs the hell out of me. Which also sets it up for a sequel..by the way, I'd totally go see.
