Can't say I really think much of Adam Glass' episodes. I think there's been maybe two he's penned over the last three years that stand up really well, the rest of them are pretty lack lustre. This one is one of the latter.
Cute scene with the boys in the car at the start and Dean not wanting to talk about his feelings. "Good talk!"
And I liked Dean in quick-thinking FBI mode at the police station when he realised the case had suddenly taken a left turn they weren't expecting.
It was nice to see a bit of continuity, in that they actually remembered they have a vampire-cure. So kudos on that.
There was a blink-and-you'll-miss-it moment of Dean going to undo his tie. Cockblocked by editing cut. *shakes fist* :D
Otherwise though, the whole thing was just... predictable. And quite a bit annoying, frankly.
I don't know whether to blame the writing for not giving Madison much variety, or Madison for not bringing much to the role, or the director for not coaxing more colour out of her performance, but Krissy was an annoying little shit for the majority of this (I know, I know - teenager, it's a given, but there should also be a bit of light & shade in any major player's arc in an episode and this just didn't have it).
I'm still scratching my head over Dean's absolute non sequitur at the end there, suddenly declaring all this will be set to rights by them hurrying up and closing the gates of Hell already. Um, that'll take care of demons, Dean, but how the fuck will that deal with vampires? Or any of the thousands other myriad things hunters fight that aren't demons, for that matter. Clearly, Glass felt (or was told) that the end of the ep HAD to mention the Trials storyline in readiness for next ep, but seriously THAT was the best way he could find to do it? That clunky WTF moment? Step up your game, Glass. That was crap.
Not a single Fagin reference. Huh.
