Here for PSA as well as my own notes
http://www.alcottfilm.com/ PBS' American Masters will be premiering "Louisa May Alcott: The woman behind Little Women" on December 28.
There is also a new biography by Harriet Riesen, coming out at the end of October.
(Although one of the book reviews on the website has the following comment:
"Born to bohemian intellectuals, the young Alcott grew into a moody, passionate girl much like her famous character, Jo March." Italics mine.
Point thar u hav missed it.)
Orchard House (www.lousiamayalcott.org) is supporting this with publicity and an advanced screening & Q&A with the production team (this Friday! in Concord! eeek!), so I am hoping that it's well researched. I'll be interested to see what they have to say about LMA and her mother (lots of people have weighed in on LMA & her father Bronson Alcott) but I don't know what documentary evidence there is as Abigail (Abba) died before either of them and they burned all her papers as she requested. The more I read about Bronson the more I wonder how they all managed to survive as well as they did; LMA is supposed to be more like her mother than her father in temperment, which, all things considered, is probably a good thing for the family fortunes.
