Will he ask for it or will he take it?

I'm going to get my hair cut and eyebrows waxed in a little bit. Colleen is awesome. The waxing hurts but damn it, it's worth it. School starts on Monday. I'm nervous. I can't wait to see Mary Ann again. I love her! Maybe I'll see Katherine's brother. Wouldn't that be cool? I'm so lame. I really miss all the girls. I have to see Kristin soon to at least give her her present. I ordered a Hello Kitty lamp and alarm clock that came the other day. I really am broke now. I finished this book, "Slut! Growing Up Female With A Bad Reputation." by Leora Tanenbaum. It was quite good. The author is a feminist but she's not insane about it. Most of her views are actually true. Here's some stuff I thought was interesting.

81% of adolescent boys say that "sex is a pleasurable experience," only 59% of girls feel the same
Who get's picked on--"She's so loose": The Sexual Girl. "She Asked For It": The Raped Girl. "Not One Of Us": The Outsider
"In this country when girls come from poor or middle-class or wannabe wealthy families, they don't have room to be sexual. There's too much symbolic weight attached."
In 1994, a survey showed that 71% of girls said they were in love w/their last sexual partner, while only 45% of the boys said they felt the same.
"Today slut refers to any girl who appears open & carefree about her sexuality."
From a woman who was gang raped:"Slut" is the name for a woman whose sexuality can't be understood."
"Her body is considered public property: She is fair game for physical harassment."
"The girl w/breasts, she possesses a constant physical reminder of her sexual potential fit into stereotype."
"Young girls w/big breasts are nearly always ridiculed, even teachers gossip about them."
Sex Respect, text for schools: "There's no condom strong enough to protect my heart"

"Abstaining from sex, hitting the books, and wearing loose-fitting clothes are common ways that girls try to molt their "slutty" image. But more often their shame leads them to selt-destructive behavior. They become willing to do things that they wouldn't have dreamed of doing before they were scandalized because they now feel they have so little to offer. Some girls do drugs or drink to excess in an attempt to blot away their stigma. Others become depressed and anorexic. And others think so little of themselves that they date boys who insult or beat them."

In her book she mentions a lot of movies. Splendor in the Grass was one of them so I ended up renting it and it was so good. Natalie Wood is absolutely gorgeous and does a great job w/her role. I couldn't stop crying. I suggest anyone who hasn't seen it to rent it. Especially if you like classic hollywood.

"I'm pretty nuts about Deanie Loomis...I mean I love her and she loves me. But it's no fun to be in love. It hurts. Every time that we're together, I have to remember things - you know what I mean?...And I can't just go back to seeing her again, not like the way we were doing. We'd go out every night and I'd kiss her - I'd just go home. I mean, a guy can go nuts that way...My dad said that I should get another kind of a girl...but when you don't really want another girl...I don't know."

What though the radiance
which was once so bright
Be now for ever taken from my sight,
Though nothing can bring back the hour
Of splendour in the grass,
of glory in the flower,
We will grieve not, rather find
Strength in what remains behind;
In the primal sympathy
Which having been must ever be;
In the soothing thoughts that spring
Out of human suffering;
In the faith that looks through death,
In years that bring the philosophic mind.
-William Wordsworth
