Spicy Chicken Tortilla Soup version 2

Sep 13, 2014 12:51

A basic chicken tortilla soup features chicken, corn tortillas, beans, and tomatoes. The other ingredients are flexible. This version is different from the one I've made before but quite tasty and pretty spicy with the addition of the marinated chicken and adobo sauce.

Wow, I make tortilla soup all the time and never thought to use taco seasoning mix. Mmm, I will have to try that next time.

Some people have the packets handy so it's convenient to use it. I made my own and have a small jar in the cupboard in case I'm inspired to make a fast batch of tacos. No cornstarch in mine though. :)

What a great twist to an old favourite Maria, I like the idea of adding the crushed tortilla chips, I bet they added a nice texture and saltiness. Thank you too for the taco seasoning mix recipe, I have never bought it because I feared a lot of MSG in it so I've avoided recipes that called for it. It's great to have a go to one with all the ingredients in my pantry. Thanks again for the link to the post where you gave me a shout out. I make tortilla soup regularly when I have a roasted chicken carcass (makes fantastic soup).

Thank you back, Eva.

A bag of tortilla chips is so useful ... to dip up guacamole or salsa, to make nachos, and as a thickener in this soup. I didn't have to add ANY salt, as between the chicken bouillon cubes (I only had duck and seafood stock in my freezer), the poached chicken and the tortilla chips there was enough salt there already.

As to the shout out, well, I always enjoy your posts, for the inspirations and motivations to get off my duff and make something new and, hopefully nicely, if not elegantly, presented. When I roast my Thanksgiving turkey, I foresee turkey tortilla soup in my future. :)

I have never had a tortilla soup, but it looks very appetising. I like all the ingredients, so I think I should try it one day. Sissi (http://www.withaglass.com)

Thank you. I think the extra ingredients I added made it more satisfying than the last version I made. It was easier to make too. There are all kinds of recipes for tortilla soup on the net ... just find one with the ingredients you like and go for it. :) There's a taco soup with ground beef too.
