My Mini Nut Grinder and Rugelach (redux)

Mar 09, 2013 18:06

I have a full sized food processor so when I want to chop up or grind smaller amounts it seems like such a chore to dig it out of its spot, tucked in among a bunch of other electronic gadgets, and then have to clean it and put it back. Luckily, if you have a blender, you can adapt it to function as a mini nut chopper or spice grinder. I've also used it to make small batches of hummus.

What you need is a wide-mouth regular glass canning jar (I use a Mason jar I found in the basement) that fits into the base of the blender and the blades. Add your ingredients to the jar, screw it all together, fit it onto the base of your blender and grind on low until it's as finely chopped as you'd like. You can remove the jar and shake up the contents to redistribute them if you find that they're compacting into the blades.

ETA: This tip can be found elsewhere on the net. Like here. :) And is ONLY meant for dry ingredients NOT hot liquids due to the pressure changes and risk of EXPLOSION.

And now ... what did I do with those ground almonds?

Well, I made my cream cheese pastry rugelach again. Eva's recent post using drained cottage cheese to make the dough, instead of cream cheese, reminded me that I hadn't made these in ages. :)
