can't we all just get along?,
five has an unhealthy relationship,
five is a nerd,
five does not approve,
playin' it cool,
five is emo,
when the soap box is a-rockin',
five does not freak out *enough*,
responsible five is responsible,
five likes stuff,
post traumatic zen disorder

I won't fault Miss Adams for her outburst, but in the larger picture, it simply called my attention to the inner workings of the situation as a whole: she was only one of many who were taken, or beaten, or killed. Her shouting implied nothing more than an authoritative disposition and a penchant for strong opinions, while I wished to address those without such brazen words on hand, and yet still deserve an explanation, apology and reassurance.
What I ultimately wish to be known, and see more of amongst yourselves, is that I trust each of you to conduct your wards to the best of your abilities, and I expect nothing more than than that. Every sentience is a learning being. In an infinite Universe, within an infinite measure of time, even the smallest margin of error is infinite, and while that shrinks significantly in a finite space, a margin irrevocably exists nonetheless.
As for penance versus penitence... well, that's rather why I feel my ward's penance is best left to my discretion, and why I felt it necessary to inform the populace that she had no powers to begin with. I know what will help her, and it's my duty--mine alone--to find the means to that end.
This may perhaps shed a bit of light as well, for those who do believe that rescinding powers and privileges is feasible. They might then consider what their charges are capable of, even with nothing else within their reach.

I - admittedly respect a man who will readily accept blame for his action or inaction.
As to the latter, rescinding powers is feasible. It is not wise. If a man uses words to incite violence, you teach him. You don't punish him by removing his ability to speak. For many of us, our abilities to perform magic are as natural and innate as breathing. To remove those abilities may only serve to make us more dangerous - what have we left to lose?
But, as you say, she had no powers to begin. It hardly matters, in that event. Your inmate is yours to handle as you see fit; you are correct to take the majority of what may come with a grain of salt.
Everyone has an opinion.

I'll keep your advice close and at the ready, on all counts.
Do look after yourself, won't you? She... death is perhaps a phase here, but it rends some of those around it irreparably, despite their best efforts.

Finally, he replies quietly, sounding very much as though he's uncomfortable but realizes it ought to be said.]
I'll be good to her, Doctor.
