Two Weeks Off

Sorta.

What I've had two weeks of not doing is novel writing. At least, two weeks off of writing on the novel itself. Instead I've been pootling over our pitches, pondering what events I could write a short story about, and watching a lot of "Castle" on my computer. We're waiting on notes from our kind and generous readers, and then we get to do whole-book edits. Nifty!

I've also been single mom-ing it for the last three weeks, which, with two teenagers, isn't that big a deal. It's the daily chores that add up when there's no one to divide the labor with, and they're making life interesting. I've conscripted Ms KT and the Dude to help with some of them, and that was a great help. Still, there are things like the lawn mower not working and a whole grasslands worth of property that needs hacking down. And the light fixture in the bathroom, which was fritzing out a couple of months ago, decided to fritz out again for a whole day just for the heck of it. It's better now? Again? Yeah, it's got to go.

I feel bad for P., as he's going to be one wiped-out puppy when he finally comes home. Then we get to put him back to work.

The inaugural session of Roles & Rolls last weekend went marvelously well. Huzzah! Thanks to all of you who came, played games and shared your charming selves with all and sundry (or at least the sundry if not the all). Much glorious fun was had. On top of that, we had much good foodz that weekend: Mashiko for sushi on Friday night, Harbor City for dim sum Sunday afternoon, and good ol' Luna Park for diner food on Sunday night. Yum!

Of course, with so many BIG THINGS finally culminating (the last two months have been stressful), my body decided to stage a coup and I crashed like a giant crashing thing on Tuesday. Worst. Allergy. Attack. Evar. It was so severe and so weird, I ended up seeing my doctor about it. What she said was, "You burned yourself out. What do you expect?" I love my doctor. So, vitamins, adrenal support, allergy support. REST. "You remember what that is, don't you? And by the way, how's the sleeping coming along?"

Um ...

Maybe next time I'll remember to support my body in the middle of deadlines and other stressful events. It would seem like common sense.

This weekend is all about edits, Inception (unless stick already went without me **shakes fist at sky**), and more edits. Oh, yes, and REST. See, she can be taught.

Sometime soon, I want to blog about an article I read yesterday concerning the oil spill disaster in the Gulf, and the end of the world. I'd also like to blog a bit more about the business of writing, from a neophyte's PoV. You'd think that writing a novel would be enough. You'd think wrong. I certainly thunk'd wrong.

How's y'all?
