thinky links to read

I've been off LJ for the past week not really by choice - my router kept dropping the line making it incredibly frustrating to do anything.

But I'm back and I bring you interesting links to a series of articles that I recently read.

An interview with a woman who had a abortion at 32 weeks.

This article will make you cry and it will make you mad. One of the things that angers me about people who wish to ban late term abortions is their insulting assumption that a woman who is past 20 weeks wakes up one day, says "holy shit, I'm pregnant, got to get rid of that thing". Late term abortions are heartbreaking, agonizing decisions and I have no doubt they will be outlawed within a year.

The difficulties of goting to college when your family is poor.

This article is a real eye opener. It's not enough to send a poor kid to college - they need an incredible amount of support in order to make it through. Written by a student, it puts the lie to the myth that poor kids don't make it because they don't work hard enough.

The White Flight of Derek Black

The incredible, true story of how Derek Black, the heir apparent of the white supremacist/alt-right movement (his godfather is David Duke) wound up turning his back on it and realizing how wrong and bigoted he was. If you read only one of these articles, read this one. It might restore a little faith in humanity.
