The last month or so

Jul 14, 2010 17:35

I finally have a few spare moments so I'll type up the insanity that's happened here the last month or so.
First my party turned out pretty great. Had 4 guests over Friday night and while we played a few games mostly we just chatted and had some pretty cool conversations. Saturday we had at one point or another 9 guests. Part of my birthday present from mom was some frozen Ham and turkey slices which came in handy when the 5 lbs of Italian beef disappeared by 5pm with 5 hungry people still to feed. Fun stuff! We got to hang out with a lot of friends and some circles of friends who'd never met got to brush shoulders. Very interesting. It was great to have Frank and Renae up. Frank fail...he'd brought his mom's cookies with but forgot to bring them in so we were left with all of them around midnight Saturday.
Sunday we took cookies and left over cupcakes to small group. managed to get rid of the rest of the cupcakes but acquired more cookies as a birthday gift from Jacki. They were AMAZING!
The weekly temp job switched to Wednesday from Tuesday. So we spent Tuesday afternoon (June 15th) at Vince's and left some cookies there.
Worked the 16th and 17th. Took the rest of the cookies to work. They were GONE by lunchtime. Yup Amazing how fast they go once I convinced people to try them.
The 17th was uprooted discussion group. Met some new people had a good discussion. Pat's drafted notes on it.
The 18th we acquired some supplies for the weekend and a bike rack so that we can actually make use of our bikes. Living on Butterfield we're not really feeling safe riding the roads nearby so now we can get to the many places nearby where it's safe to bike.
Supplies for the weekend you wonder. (probably not really but I'll pretend) A friend had shared earlier that week that the wildlife park near Mom's place was having an Olde English Faire over Father's Day weekend. So the 19th we loaded up the car and picked up Mom and visited nature and the Olde English:) We figured it'd be very hot so Pat decided we both needed haircuts...after everything was closed of course so we cut each others hair. I'd cut his hair once before when we were newly weds. It was awesome at that time because the overhead lights were out but half the outlets still worked. We didn't have lamps so I strung christmas lights around the bathroom to have light to work with. I did pretty ok that time...I actually had sharp scissors. This time was kinda fail. I mean it's not horrible but it's definitely not good either. Pat had never cut my hair before. he's always telling me he likes my hair long so I let him cut to whatever length he was comfortable with. Now he is very sad. A cat pounce in mid cut means my hair is much shorter than he intended...I have maybe 1-2 inches past the ponytail holder which is a huge change from halfway down my back. Pat's hair cannot be pulled back anymore which it also a huge change. It's only to about the bottom of his ears. But as he's continued to say over and over..."It'll grow back."
Other plans for Father's Day weekend included a visit to Bloomington to see Aunt Cheryl and visit FUEL, and a call to Pat's Dad to wish him a happy father's day.
21st Monday afternoon Pat's parents came over to see us before their vacation and to deliver my birthday present that got shipped to them not me...oops.
22nd Tuesday afternoon we took the cat to the vet for his check up and vaccines.
23rd Wednesday I worked and 24th Thursday I worked. We got some good bike rides in.
We didn't end up going to the Zoo for our fifth anniversary afterall. Instead we went on a search for the Pandemic expansion and ended up picking up it, some dice, and Once Upon a Time at a very cool Game Store in Mount Prospect.
26th Saturday was a hiking trip at Starved Rock fail but games were fun
27th Sunday church was at Blackwell forest preserve. We helped with set up and stuff. It was a little damp but everyone was impressed at my table organization so everyone on both sides could reach everything. They've decided I am on the list of folks to call when stuff like that needs to happen and I'm happy to be on it. Then Small group was at Jake and Amber's YAY! It was a blast and we were sent home with a ton of meat! Amber's family has a farm so we got lots of ground beef, some dried beef, some roasts, some steak and some beef jerky. I'm addicted to the jerky:) The roast and steaks were good have not yet tried the ground beef or dried beef but I am sure it will also be good.
July 3rd we had a BBQ and pool party with our small group in Barrington then watched Wheaton's fireworks from a 20th floor balcony overlooking the set off site. Absolutely awesome. The the fourth we took a train into the City with our small group and watched the fireworks from the roof of a building in Pilsen. Fireworks both legal and illegal were going off all around us from the moment we arrived around 8 until we left around midnight. Also AMAZING!
Worked Wednesday and Thursday again. Rode bikes a time or 2 again. Then on the morning of the 10th we went with a friend to one of her friend's house and picked blueberries tons and tons of blueberries. Then in the afternoon I frosted up a birthday cake for another friend and we headed out for a surprise party taking our fresh blueberries and some strawberries we'd bought with us. Pandemic was a hit. Managed to get rid of about half the blue berries(just Pat and I had picked somewhere in the neighborhood of 1.5-2 gallons so needed a way for them to not spoil.) Sunday I baked blueberry bread and what was supposed to be blueberry strawberry bread using up the last of my eggs and strawberries...The Blueberry Strawberry bread failed pretty miserably...but it seems like it'll be a decent cobbler if we get a chance to eat some before it goes bad. Be cause we still have the blueberry bread and some cinnamon rolls and half a pan of lasagna (left over from Sunday's small group)
Monday was Pat's first day on the job with his contract position and he came to the realization that apparently no one North of Lake Cook Road understands that Unix Administrator is NOT AT ALL the same thing as Unix Programmer. Instead of him designing a Red Hat build customized to make their software work best, doing a proof of concept and then migrating data, he's trying to make their current code work on a platform it was never designed to work on without rewriting any of the code. Oh and as of yesterday he STILL didn't have access to all the code and documentation he needed to do his job. He did not leave work until after 6 Monday and almost 7 yesterday(starting at 9:30 Monday and 8 Tuesday. Me I was at the beach. Friend and I went to Warren Dunes and played in Lake Michigan most the day.
Yesterday I started working on getting some cleaning done but didn't really succeed.
Today and tomorrow I work. Tomorrow night is uprooted again. Friday I think I'm doing something with the friend I went to the beach with. Also might be going to Elgin to pick something up.
This weekend will be serious down time. Ren Faire is fun but exhausting and Pat will definitely need to relax. Maybe that trip to the zoo finally since what I'm picking up in Elgin is free one day admission for 2 that expire on the 20th. Or maybe we'll go back to the beach. Not really sure yet.
Monday afternoon I start a temp job prepping papers for scanning at Central Dupage Hospital. Well actually in the HR part. It's full time but only for a couple weeks. That doesn't start until Monday afternoon though so who knows what I'll do in the morning.
I think that's about all the interesting for now.
