More lyrical clues?

After spazzing out again to the BCC's promo for Saturday, I got curious about the choice of song. Being a child of the eighties, I knew it was Final Countdown by Europe.

Cut for lyrical spoilers... mabbe )

At first I thought 'no, it's just because it's the countdown to the end' and then I actually read the lyrics and maybe you have something here. Life on Mars, heading to Venus? Hmm...

Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but I can't shrug it off. The first two lines especially are killing me, because I know it's not going to end well in terms of Gene/Alex and probably not for Gene full stop.

As much as I want answers, I want them to leave the end fairly open (so fanfic can happen, LOL) but with Philip saying he won't play Gene again they'll probably draw a definite line.

*has a sad*

If they go down the American-space-man route thing I will be *so* dissapointed...

The lyrics are interesting, but do we know that It will be included in the episode?

When David Tennant guest hosted 'Nevermind the Buzzcocks' the BBC trailed it with 'Who are you' but the song never featured in the ep.

I don't wish to harsh your theory, I kinda like it, just putting forward another possible reason for the track choice. (And now I'm trying to remember if the Beeb have railed with TFC before.)

Since we are talking song theories I have been wondering if 'In the air tonight', will feature in the finale. I just checked, it was out in '81.

Lastly today, just because this is never not awesome:

Enjoy.

Although oddly enough, 'The Final Countdown' did feature in the Tennant episode of Buzzcocks, played by a brass band coming out of the Tardis...

I may be wrong but I think they've used 'In the Air Tonight' in Ashes already, haven't they?

Um, sounds likely. The Awesome of Cribbins must have drowned it from my memory. ;D

Yeah your right, 2.02. Still, they have repeated a couple of songs, I think, so if it was used just so, it could work.

There's a good chance the Beeb is only using TFC because it's the penultimate episode and they didn't realise the implications of the lyrics.

But while we're talking about Who, in the 2005 series there were references on the show to websites that the BBC had online (the one about the Doctor that appeared in "Rose" and Stattan's company if I recall correctly), so it's not beyond reason that they might hinting at A2A's ending with TFC.

Also? Daleks!
