Movie Review - Filth

So I literally *just* finished watching the movie 'Filth' starring my Mr James McAvoy & I'm not really sure how I feel about it.

Now to be fair, this is definitely NOT my type of movie... not by a long shot and the only reason, yes ONLY reason I watched it was for James. I'd been following news of this film since casting was first announced and I was a bit disappointed as I knew it was not the sort of thing I'd be interested in watching (The same can be said for that absolutely awful movie 'Wanted' which I insisted I would NEVER watch but I sat through that, I knew I could sit through this). So I've had the movie for some time now but never quite seemed to find the time to watch it.

To begin, it's labeled as a dark comedy... I'm not sure where the comedy comes into it as I found very few scenes to be funny... shocking and disturbing yes but not funny. The storyline was pretty straight forward. The characters were difficult to like and I found myself rolling my eyes more than once... I also gasped in shock horror a few times too... I did laugh-out-loud once but that was more from disbelief.

James McAvoy *made* this film... I can't see any other actor being able to own this role the way he did... He's definitely a method actor who throws himself so deeply into a role that viewers can forget he's acting... It's almost disturbing how natural he seemed to be in this role. The best part, of course, was that his character was Scottish so he was able to play the role using his natural Scottish accent, something that, sadly, he doesn't get to do often... I love his British accent but there's something about his Scottish lilt that just makes me all tingly :)

His character wasn't exactly likeable yet his portrayal made one feel sympathy for him... SPOILERS the scene in which he totally loses it during 'therapy' is brilliant, the way he cracks and sees weird animal-like creatures in place of his co-workers is done very well... Then there's the MORE SPOILERS reveal at the end with him dressed in drag... It truly makes one see just how far his character has fallen when he dons a blonde wig and dresses up as his own wife...
The final few seconds left me in a state of shock

If I had to rate this out of ten... I could only muster a 5.5... I'm in no hurry to watch it again, I marked it up for two reasons... One: James naked arse and two: his gorgeous accent
