[A clipped, English voice echoes from the communicator.]

Hm? What a curious contraption. I would like to see how it works, but ah...

Oh, excuse me. It seems to be recording, isn't it? My name is Hershel Layton, though those that know me refer to me as Professor Layton.

Alex Forbes. It could be nice to meet you, but its not, considering where we are. [A small pause and a sigh on the other side.]

Make more friends than enemies in this place, I'll advise.

Pleasure to meet you as well, Mr. Forbes. Yes, they certainly did not intend this facility to be a warm place, but that just makes the need to work together to overcome such obstacles more important.

I hope to do so. So far, the people I've talked to have been quite understanding.

It does - not everyone is willing to work together however, whether that is due to personality or sheer stubbornness. This place forces a change, or keeps one rather lonely, from what I've seen.

Hopefully it stays that way; we've had an odd couple of events in the past month.

That is a shame, but I am glad that there are still some that have made the most of the situation. That is what a gentleman does in times like these, after all.

As do I. Ah, do you mind if I inquire as to what has happened recently? It might not reflect what is to come, but it is better than not being prepared at all.

A gentleman? Suppose you have a bloody code to adhere by then, huh?

Ahh-- last week, the plants came to life; they were supposed to be harmless but quite a few wandered off and got hurt, killed even. [He's quiet at that part.] Another week, there was mud all over the place, and the week before, everyone was placed into tortuous situations, death being the other option if not escape.

Not so much a code, as there have been times when I've been flexible on just what a gentleman is. It's more of [Layton tugs at his hat, to hide just a small flash of a memory passing across his face.]...something to remember when times become straining. [Something to remember someone by.]

Good heavens. [Layton looks genuinely saddened for those hurt. That is just not something he can condone.] Thank you for sharing that with me. I cannot imagine that enduring those tests must have been easy.

It must be nice, then. Something to fall back on.

[A small breath on the other side.] Hm--it never gets easier from here, to be honest. I've been here for about six months, others have been here far longer.

Yes, it is truly comforting, but I can't rely on it entirely. Thankfully, I got a bit more up my sleeve should things get rough.

[A pause as Layton thinks about what six months here and even longer must be like.] Rather than easier, it will get progressively worse. Still, we must carry on.

Look forward to seeing what you can do that. Seems interesting.

That's all anyone's ever done here, I think.

Considering the weekly tests, it might be sooner rather than later.

That does remind me, is there a library of some sort here in the Facility? I think I would like to look through it should I ever have the time.

Right, right. Gotta keep on guard.

Ah, well--there's a rec room. Its got some books, but none of them are that informative. It should be by the stairs, once you get to wandering.

Its an off-week right now, so you'll have the time.

I see. Thank you. I did plan on doing some legwork around the Facility, so I suppose I'll stop by there on the way.

That's good, then. Might as well get it done sooner than later.

I'll see you when I do.

[A small chuckle.] I'll try.

I hope so. Until then, I'll be signing off, unless there is anything else you wish to speak to me more about?

Alright. Thank you again for all your information. Until then, Mr. Forbes. [There's a small pause and then the communicator is shut off.]
