Eighteenth Crescent: Remus [text]

Oct 13, 2011 17:21

If there are any healers not currently busy, I believe I need help. We're in Suite 29.

But please, not if you're too busy. I can survive.

Also, has anyone got any chocolate? I will trade tea and perhaps eternal loyalty.

I still have some stashed away from our little tea party. Shall I return the favor? I can be there in five.

If you're not busy, the company would certainly be appreciated.

As would the chocolate.

I'm never too busy for you, Remus.

Be there in 5.

[And sure enough, 5 minutes later (or maybe it was 6, but who's counting) Amy knocks on the door of Suite 29 before letting herself in.]

I come bearing gifts. [She holds up a bar of chocolate in one hand.] And some spare bandages. [And two rolls of gauze in her other.]

Looking charming as always. [Remus, curled in the blankets and looking okay, actually, smiles at her] Please, come sit. I promise I won't bleed on you, and thank you very much. How are you?

Why thank you. [She gives a little mock curtsy as she closes the door behind her.] And I think I did plenty of bleeding last time, feel free to take your turn if you want.

[She sits down on the couch and hands over the chocolate, but not before snagging a bite of the corner.] I've been alright. I've been walking a lot. I don't really like spending too much time in my room at once.

[She turns a roll of bandages over in her hands.] How about you? Besides the obvious.

I'd really rather not-- and anyway, I've gotten a bit healed. Now I've just got these great ugly scars on my chest, to match all the others. [He accepts the chocolate with a grateful little noise, biting into it immediately. Naturally he waits until he's finished to speak again] Much better now I've got this, thank you. Have you met anyone interesting?

You're very welcome. Hm... I did meet one new person. [As she speaks, Amy looks down at her arms as she slowly works up her sleeve and starts unraveling the bandage secured around her left wrist.] Her name was Elle, Elle Bishop. And she responded to my... well, my trap post. She was a bit strange and not the most sympathetic, but I have a feeling she's nicer than she lets on.

[As she finishes, Amy pulls the last of the wrapping off her wrist and piles it in her lap. She holds up the inside of her wrist, showing off the ragged scar covering the entire expanse of pale skin. The edges are still an angry red but otherwise it seems to be healing up as nicely as one could expect. She gently takes a hold of Remus' hand and traces his finger tips over the knotted flesh. Then she looks up at him with a smile.]

Well, I suppose we can match now. [Despite her smile, she is a bit misty-eyed.

Elle? Blonde? I think I've seen her on the network.

[Remus' eyes widen when she holds up her wrist, and his tone immediately goes soft and sympathetic] From your trap, isn't it?

Yeah. This is where the last pill was. I was pretty feverish when I finally found it so... its rather ugly. [A pause. The smile that was on her lips, falls away and her face becomes sober.]

Strange thing is. I'm not ashamed of it. It proves I beat them, that I wouldn't just roll over and die. [Her voice is strong and unrelenting, but regardless, tears start to well up in her eyes.]

The others... [She gestures vaguely to the hundred thin cut scars all over her, that even now aren't nearly as discernible as they were.] they'll fade away, but this one will always stay.

[She takes a deep breath and lets it out in a sigh. She somehow manages to keep the tears from spilling over.] It reminds me that I'm strong, Remus, but will it ever stop reminding me of how horrible it was?

[Remus watches her, almost disconcerted at the shining, teary quality her eyes take on. But all he can feel is a stab of sympathy, and more than that, deep, unending empathy. Softly he shakes his head, then catches her gaze] They will stop, Amy. [He gestures to the scars on his own chest, the ones on his face-- everywhere] Even these... don't remind me so often, anymore, of what I went through to get them, and yours is so much more meaningful. You're right: it means you beat them. It means you won and you were strong enough to do a thing like that, in order to show your strength. Don't be ashamed of that.
