038: Darc [Accidental Video]

[The feed switches on to show someone with their back to the camera, standing a little further off into the room. Its obvious who it is given his somewhat unusual features, and also obvious that he doesn't know the camera is recording. He's standing in front of the TV - he found it on when he entered the room - and it can be gathered from his tense

[Alma opens his door and peeks out into the common area with wide eyes.]

... Darc?

[Darc glances up from where he's still leaning against the wall - knees pulled up to his chin - at the sound of his name, his expression oddly blank]

...yeah.

[He stares at the trashed common area for a moment before stepping through the doorway, concern all over his face.]

Did you do this?

[His response is slightly delayed, but after a moment he nods]

Uh huh.

[Alma may be a child (a rather spastic one at times), but he's not stupid. He can hear the track playing over the speakers and he's seen the reactions on the network. This is not going to be a good week.

He pads through the wreckage quietly to just kneel next to Darc against the wall.]

[Darc remains where he is as the boy comes to kneel beside him, keeping still and silent for several long moments. Eventually he sighs and leans his head back against the wall, his eye closing as he runs his more human-looking hand over his face]

...I fucking hate this place.

[Alma nods, silent and subdued for a little while before speaking, eyes on his knees.]

... Sometimes when I dream, I go somewhere else. It's not here or home, but it's warm. I want to go somewhere like that.

[Darc keeps his own eyes closed, but he's listening; at least the sound of Alma's voice is mildly distracting from his own turbulent thoughts]

...yeah? You don't wanna go home?

[His voice is sort of flat and dull, and its taking an effort for him to respond, but again he thinks making an effort might help blot out the images in his head]

[Alma's treating Darc like he would Kanda in a similar situation. Hugs aren't always appropriate, but sometimes? Just being with another person can help.]

Sometimes I miss people, and it's better than here... but I don't want to go back.

[And honestly, it does help. He'll appreciate it a lot more later, when he's not feeling quite so numb and desolate. And its really the best way to deal with Darc. He nods in response to the other's answer.]

...neither do I. Why don't you wanna go back, though?

... There's experiments there, too. Synchro testing... but I can handle those. It's just...

We're not allowed outside the lab, and I've met so many people here.

[He glances at the other out of the corners of his eyes, which still look kinda empty and dead, closing them again a few seconds later]

...yeah. That...I wouldn't wanna be somewhere like that either. But there's gotta be somewhere better than this.

I know there is. [He's frowning down at his knees, eyes determined.]

We just gotta find it.

...hmm. [His own brow furrows in response to that; the scenes on the TV have temporarily derailed his self-belief a little, though he'll be alright...] That...Well, its good to think that way, I guess.

[Alma looks up at Darc, a tiny smile on his face.]

We just gotta stick together.

[He opens his eyes and looks at Alma blankly for a few moments before attempting to give him a small smile in return, even if it does look sort of wrong on his vacant face at the moment]

...yeah. We've gotta do that. No more stupid, pointless fighting...

[Which is more of a reminder to himself than a comment to Alma, seeing as its him who's guilty of doing that, albiet less frequently these days]
