Take a break

I'm not terribly busy at work right now, but I spent most of the day yesterday vacation planning. I'm not done yet and it takes so much time and effort. So I'll take a break to talk about drama.

After six episodes, I'm dropping Alchemy of Souls. As some other reviews of this drama said, it lures in people who care about a kickass female character only to switch the story to a ho-hum guy that has a mysterious past.

The story the focuses almost solely on him and how he becomes awesome with very little mention of how the FL will get back her awesome powers. So much time is spent on how ML is a spoiled rich little shit and FL (despite being a former awesome assassin) has to act like his maid while trying to teach him how to be awesome.

Probably the better character is obvious second male lead who has no chance with FL despite the story trying to cram in a love triangle. He's a better character than the ML and a cutie pie that dual wields.

Six hour-ish episodes in (out of twenty), I just feel like I'm wasting my time watching a rom-com when it promised to be an action fantasy.

It's a darn shame, because I really like the premise with the soul shifting and whatnots. The fight choreography isn't awful and CGI is good for drama. I also really, really like the men's hair in this drama after watching too many Chinese dramas with bad wigs. Like, it's totally fine not to have everyone have the same long ass-reaching hair!

I'll even accept this boy band hair guy because the story is fantasy in an ancient setting. So frankly, these guys can have whatever hair they want.

Not to be confused (like I originally was) with Ancient Love Poetry. The story seems interesting. ML travels back in time but the first time he meets the FL is the last time she meets him before she dies. Then subsequent times ML time travels is in reverse order from how FL meets him.

It's a lower budget drama and I think it's a low number of episodes at about 20-30 minutes each episode. But the ML (either character or actor) is so unlikable to me that I can't continue after three episodes.

Despite the ML being a modern man with short-ish hair traveling back in time, production also contrived to put an ugly-ass wig on his head.

They story explained it away by saying that they gave him a wig to wear so that he could blend in. Buy why??? Why not just style his hair more naturally? Lettuce pray for a day when China realizes that those wigs are abominations (like how they're maybe sort of realizing dubbing is annoying).
