Recently, I finished three dramas: Lost Romance and Alice in Borderland, which I watched with Henry, and Light on Series: Sisyphus, which I watched with my mom. Henry and I also finished watching the second season of The Mandalorian. That's amazing!
The amazing speed at which we finished things aside, I would have to say that none of the dramas were amazing. So I'll just quickly talk about them.
Lost Romance had great cast and excellent humor going for it. I didn't care much for
Marcus Chang after Back to 1989 while I'm pretty fond of Vivian Sung from Our Times and Cafe, Waiting, Love. After this, I would probably try out more things with Marcus Chang.
Other than that, it was different than what I imagined so I didn't enjoy it that much. I thought it would be more about being trapped in a fictional world and the mysteries about it. But it turned out to be more about...romance. And it was one of those romances where it's inexplicable to me what the ML and FL see in each other. But the character interactions are very good and therefore saves the drama.
Alice in Borderland had good stylistic violence. Japan really loves their "young people play crazy games" genre (see: Battle Royale, Liar Game, Kakegurui).
I do like how the games are set up and some elements of the characters/story. But at the same time, it suffers from the ML being the one that has to solve all the games even though he ends up teaming up with the FL, who had been surviving just fine before meeting him. But right after meeting ML, FL seems to rely on ML to do everything in clearing a game. It also sucks that Netflix is backing this drama so it will have more than one season. I'm not really sure if I'll watch the second season...maybe if I have nothing better to do.
Light on Series: Sisyphus had good acting and snazzy dialogue going for it. Once again, who knew Lu Han would turn out to be a good actor! That's amazing! But it feels like the story was patched together to at the end. I read it's because of Chinese censorship. But honestly, I don't know what the actual plot was trying to do. The story is about a cop plagued by a serial killer that seems to be targeting him, his colleagues, and his family. There's something about a time loop. But all that seem honestly kind of uninteresting. The interesting part is the cat and mouse game with the cop trying to find enough evidence to arrest the serial killer.
The Mandalorian was watched out of obligation since it's set in the Star Wars universe and not outright uninteresting. I didn't care much for the first season, and the second season is really no better. I love Star Wars and all. But at this point, I feel like I've lost a lot of interest in the universe...unless they bring back more stories about Frog Lady.
To talk about other things I finished, I also finished playing Detention in about 3-4 days of playing. I would say it's a pretty good game in that it's simple, short, and has good mood/setting going for it.
On the other hand, I was expecting it to be more scary than it actually turned out to be. I suppose that's good. I really don't want to be too stressed out playing a game.
We ended up doing a Christmas Eve dinner over at Jasmine's house. Jasmine did most of the cooking, which is crazy but honestly her food is pretty amazing. Then we did the standard present opening.
I got Assassin's Creed: Valhalla from my parents. They also gave a coffee grinder I had asked for mistakenly to Henry. But honestly, I can't blame them. There's enough of us to shop for that it's probably pretty confusing for them.
Ben and Jasmine gave me the booze I had asked for and Julie and Tim got me the sweatpants and orchid pot I wanted.
This morning, I had to work because of unfortunate work events. But it was maybe for an hour and Henry and I exchanged presents afterwards. I got Henry gaming headphones and Henry got me a puzzle (which we started but may not finish for another few days). I also started playing Valhalla, but may not finish for another few months.
