In my bout of dissatisfaction with my job, I went on a job hunting frenzy and sent out a bunch of resumes. Since then, I'm less disgruntled, have stopped looking for a new job, and change is terrifying. But out of the blue, this Big Law Firm that I sent my resume to a long time ago and never heard from again had their recruiter call me and we did a brief informal phone interview today. So stressful! Probably made worse because, for privacy, I was sitting in my car, which is too new and fancy to have windows that crank down while the engine is off and it's a pretty hot day even if I parked in the shade. So there I was, sitting and sweating and answering questions like "tell me about a time when you really excelled at something and was recognized for it." I know I'm awesome, but it's hard to talk about myself as if I'm awesome without sounding like a self-important prick. So I had to tone down my awesomeness. But I guess it worked because, after about 20 minutes, the recruiter said he'll talk to the hiring manager and recommend that they bring me in for a real interview.
I guess overall, I'm excited to possibly join a big firm. The position they're looking for is paying slightly higher than what I'm getting now and they have the full range of benefits like 401K, medical, dental, and paid vacation that big firms offer. On the other hand, if they do make the offer, I know my head will be smoking again because I'll have to quit my current job for the second time in two years! I guess I'll worry about that when the time comes. The hiring manager might not actually want to hire me.
So anyways, on to a 30-day survey thing that I meant to do Monday, but was actually a bit busy.
Day 01 - the best movie you saw during the last year
My memory is pretty terrible so I can probably only remember things that happened since the New Year. That said, I would probably say Captain America: The Winter Soldier is one of the best movies I saw from New Year 'til now.
It's got all elements of what I like in a movie: Foolishness (Captain America's out-of-time shenanigans) and really good action (see below)
Yeah, the last GIF is just some lacky handing a gun to the Winter Soldier. But he's just that badass that he has his own gun tech.
I would say X-Men: Days of Future Past also has some of the same elements. But I do think, in terms of action, it relied more on obvious CGI and I'm against that. What it does have going for it is working well with a huge cast of characters. Yet, they somehow manage to make it all about Mystique.
