Getting Carly to the party wasn't as hard as I'd originally thought it would be. It turned out she was willing to go -- grudgingly, but willing. Since Sam was coming straight from work, I'd taken the liberties of picking Carly up and taking her to the party myself. Driving her home would be another issue entirely. I planned on getting myself stone drunk. Jake would have to cart my drunk ass home later.
"See? This isn't so bad," I told her, trying to be optomistic as we walked through the front door. Madsen and Arianna were already at the bar, and Jake was behind it, already passing out beers. Aw. Sweet alcohol. I love having a bartender for a brother.
Figures I couldn't get a day off the day of my party, and two days before I'm supposed to leave for the Bahamas. Madsen and Arianna, who were getting scarily good as friends, had given me four shades of hell over the whole thing.
But, I'm here. And I've got the next two days off after I did some sucking up to my boss and a good last shoot before I leave. It's amazing what you can do when you suck up just a little bit. Like I assume Jake probably had to do to get this going.
Jake. Yeah, I couldn't be less happy about him staying around my house for the week, but I'm trying to get past it. I've been told a million and a half times that this is supposed to be about having fun, so I'm going to try and do that.
Even though I'll be surprised if Carly even talks to me. The silent treatment... I hate that. So much.
I got out of the car, and looked just in time to see Alex and Carly heading in. I caught up to hear Alex talking.
"Shall we go say hi to Jake?""Yeah, let's do that." Come on, be nice, be nice be nice be nice... "Hey." I smiled
( ... )
I was about to agree to go say hello to one of the few men that I'm still getting along with, when Sam snuck up behind us. And he'd probably say that he just caught up, or picked up his pace, but I think there was some serious stealth involved. He probably wanted to catch me off guard.
"Yeah, let's do that."
He probably just wants to warn Jake not to try anything while he's gone. I'm surprised he hasn't hinted around to me about how faithful he plans on being, just so that I don't go off the deep end and have sex with the first attractive guy I see.
Oh, look. Jake's the first attractive guy I see. Wonder what he'd think of that.
"Hey. Thanks for coming. Seriously."I turned my face when he went to kiss me, and took a step back. Showing up is one thing, accepting this is another. I can show up, but I can't be alright with this. I'm not celebrating anything
( ... )
Madsen and Arianna weren't there ten minutes before they started drinking. Can't say I minded too much. My boss was more than happy to give us the space, time, and liquor it would take to keep this party moving, as long as it brought some money in for him. If Madsen and Arianna kept things going at this pace, things would be just fine. I knew I could count on my sister to help out with that, too.
I was grabbing a plain old bottle of Molson for myself when I looked up to see Alex and Carly walk in together. Sam was right behind them. I thought he was coming late? I'd been hoping to at least say hi to Carly before he got here, but now I knew I wouldn't be talking to her at all. He'd make sure of that.
He doesn't even want the two of us to be friends. Carly and I are great friends, nothing more -- much to my chagrin. Why can't he let it be?
"Annnnd," I cut in. "Sam will have a virgin Margarita, because he likes those thingys, and I can't call Carly's because she'll probably get aggravated for me guessing, and Madsen wants another beer, and I want..." I thought it over. "A shot of Wild Turkey."
I wonder when Dan's getting here...
And then I noticed everyone looking at me. "... What? Was I wrong?" I blinked. "Sorry, just wanted to get things moving." I shrugged.
My brother looks a little on the dejected side, he's probably already been hit with Carly's special treatment. I bet the next one will be the silent treatment, poor bastard. She knows how much he hates that.
Oh well, tonight's about having fun.
"Will all of you look a little more happy or something?" I sighed and took my drink when it came. "Dance. Party. Have fun."
Dude, that was one hell of a burn on Sammy. The cheek thing... ouch. I pity the guy twice as bad now. I mean come on, he's just earning for the family. Sure the earning comes with Beach Bunnies, but that's how all jobs should be!
And here comes Sammy, The Snowflake, and Alex the hot friend who's untouchable. But still hot. Dude, that's going to be a pain in the ass to deal with all night.
"White Russian. Now."
Strong drink. That's also hot.
"... Sam will have a virgin Margarita, because he likes those thingys, and I can't call Carly's because she'll probably get aggravated for me guessing, and Madsen wants another beer, and I want... A shot of Wild Turkey."
Dude. Moving things fast a bit?
"Will all of you look a little more happy or something? Dance. Party. Have fun."
"She's right guys, tonight is celebrating, even if you think the whole thing is screwed. Then you just celebrate anyway, because it's about gettin' drunk as hell!" I took my beer, and grinned, drinking it down. "Who wants to dance?"
"She's right guys, tonight is celebrating, even if you think the whole thing is screwed. Then you just celebrate anyway, because it's about gettin' drunk as hell! Who wants to dance?"
It's not screwed, its me getting screwed, and that's entirely different. What am I celebrating? The fact that I can get drunk off my ass before he leaves? That's nothing special. I could do it anytime, and with less of a crowd. With no Madsen.
I ignored him and leaned over the bar to give Jake a kiss on the cheek. A friendly kiss, not a flirty one. With me, there's always a difference, and Jake knows it.
Sam tries to be less aware.
"Hey, thanks for arranging this. Make me my favorite."
Guess I'm the last one in, everyone else is hitting the bar. I didn't intend to be late, but Tom had this thing with his girlfriend; he dropped her, and she had a lot of pent up anger to let out. I convinced her not to let it out on his bedroom, and then calmed her down and dried her tears. Andrea's emotional like that. I did what I could, kept the furniture intact, and left a note on the fridge about ending relationships without giving me a warning.
And Carly teases me about not making time for girls. I don't think I'd have the sanity for it.
"Hey guys, sorry I'm late."
I grinned and took off my jacket. Hot place, literally. I tried to look decent for the thing, but it's an oven in here. And while I'm on the subject of heat, wow, Arianna.
It'll never happen, but that's not the point. She's gorgeous.
"... Sam will have a virgin Margarita, because he likes those thingys, and I can't call Carly's because she'll probably get aggravated for me guessing, and Madsen wants another beer, and I want... A shot of Wild Turkey."
"On it." Arianna was very take-charge tonight. A little more than usual. Guess everyone was in a hurry to get smashed.
"Hey, thanks for arranging this. Make me my favorite."
"One Apple Jack, coming up," I told Carly with a smile, making a mental list and starting out with Sam's virgin Margarita. He probably didn't appreciate that kiss Carly had given me. It was far from a romantic kiss, but boyfriends usually can't tell the difference when their girlfriend is doling them out to other guys. Wonder if she did it just to piss him off?
"Hey guys, sorry I'm late."
"Welcome to the party." Looks like that was the last of them. Everyone was here now. Good. Let the drinking commence. "What's your poison, Dan?"
Oh. Oh. Did Carly just kiss Jake? I mean, it's not like she was sticking her tongue down his throat, but is she trying to make the situation with Sam worse? Oh God, what am I saying? Of course she is.
It would be nice if there was a way to get everyone to behave and get along tonight... but somehow, I don't see that happening. Sigh. Well, maybe things will improve the more people drink. Poor Sam, though, not being able to have any alcohol... we'll have to try and make up for that with clever conversation.
Except I don't think I can be clever when I'm drunk. Sorry, Sam, alcohol takes priority tonight. I need it, I swear.
"She's right guys, tonight is celebrating, even if you think the whole thing is screwed. Then you just celebrate anyway, because it's about gettin' drunk as hell! Who wants to dance?"
That's the spirit. Kind of. That's why I'm here. Insinuating that some people think this is screwed (read: Carly) was kind of unecessary, though. Guess I can't expect Carly and Madsen to ever get along with each other. Not that it's

Shit, here they come.
"Hey gang, what can I get you?" I asked, smiling.
"White Russian. Now."
Ah, my sister, the budding alcoholic.
