Okay, dating a med student is like the coolest thing ever. It brings a whole new meaning to those Naughty Nurse and Dirty Doctor roleplays. Mostly because you know that someday soon, forbidden sex in an unoccupied hospital room will totally be a possibility. Um. If I were the kind of person to do something like that. Which I'm not. I try hard to be impulsive and spontaneous, but it doesn't really work. It just kind of... flops. Carly's the spontaneous one! I'm the girl who knows what color socks she'll be wearing for the rest of the week.
Anyway! Hot soon-to-be-doctor boyfriend. AJ is pretty much the best boyfriend ever. He's cute, he's smart, and in a couple of years he'll be all rich and prestigious and stuff. Plus I just really like him. I'm not completely shallow. Only a little bit.
So. Great boyfriend. Hence the reason I was pretty bummed about having to postpone my plans with him that evening. It was hard to be really upset about it, given the reason. Sarah's school nurse had called and told me that Sarah was in her office with a fever and a lot of other unseemly flu symptoms. That meant I would be housebound for the next day or so taking care of her. Not that I minded in the least. I love my sister, I want her to be okay, and as her legal guardian I'm more than happy to give her whatever she needs. I might have asked Jake to watch her for the evening, but plans can be put off until later. This was more important. Besides, there's a good reason why I'm Sarah's guardian now instead of Jake. Jake couldn't take care of a hamster if he tried. I know. He killed mine.
Poor Norbert. It wasn't his time to go, dammit.
"Come on, kiddo," I sighed, unlocking the door to my apartment and ushering a very pale and sniffly Sarah inside. "Into your PJs, got it? Then we'll get you set up on the couch with some movies or a game. Sound okay?"
She nodded at me as she took her coat off, dropping it over the back of the chair near the door. "Yeah. Okay."
"Want some soup?"
She looked up at me with those pitiful puppy dog eyes. Really. Pitiful. "I never wanna eat again."
Poor kid. The nurse had told me about Sarah's adventures in toilet-hugging.
"Okay, we'll worry about feeding you later... just go get your PJs on and I'll get you a pillow and some blankets, okay?" She nodded again and dissappeared into her room, while I went to toss all of the throwpillows off of the couch and into an armchair. Sick sister, potentially irked boyfriend... the only thing needed to make this day complete was a panicked phonecall from Carly concerning Sam!Drama.
Any minute now.
((Open to Carly!))
