Have you seen the new VW GTI commercials with the little black spaceman knob-head creature that talks in a low, back of the throat, reverb-y voice? They've shown them over and over and over and over during the Olympics. What I get from them is that VW thinks the GTI won't appeal to anyone except nerdy, snotty, wimpy white men (oh, and one slightly cool(er) black guy who likes Indian food). And it seems VW REALLY doesn't think women will like the cars. So far there's no commercial in the series with a female Driver nattering on about how the darthvader-y rabbit-ball tells HER what to do. I'm sure this is a love-'em or hate-'em sort of thing... it just is hard for me to imagine anyone WANTING to be the Driver in these commercials. The protagonists aren't very sympathetic.

(P.S. And the new GTI has such an ugly nose. Pity.)
