He goes on to say.....and she goes on to demonstrate divine compassion once again

Last night they got down on their backs in her gravel driveway and stared at clouds. tears were everywhere but neither were weak enough to let them fall. He can't do it. He can't force himself to tell the first that. He can't hurt the first if she has done nothing wrong, even though he knows It's what he needs. So the second loses. He won't see the first for three months. The second will be around everyday but she don't know if she should let him see her either. It got cold outside so they went in. Neither wanted to sleep alone so they just laid there back to back, soaking up their sadness. Somewhere between night and dreams they found each other. He kissed her a million different times in his sleep and said her name, and then I love you. She knows he doesn't know he said that. He always tells her she can win. She can have anything she ever wanted. But in spite of that, she didn't win.

This morning as he was getting ready to go, She asked Why tell me I can win if I'm not gonna. He said Flat out, you can win. She asks How, if I am losing? He says It's real fucked up, but you would win. She says I wouldn't do it then, but tell me anyway. He looks her in the eye and says You could call her. She shakes her head. No, thats not how it should be done. He looks down and nods, saying I'll talk to you later. And that is how god given joy walked out of her life.

When your favorite thing is handed to you on a platter and you don't take it for the sake of someone else's happiness, it's a sad but noble thing. She wishes she could, but it is not in her. Just as it is not in him. So all three will be alone in the night. It just seems as though he gave her the key to unlock the door for a reason: why would he give her trust her with that option if he didn't want that outcome deep down? Learning to let go is one of life's greatest challenges. If she had lived in the days of Kings and Queens, eating on round tables surrounded in armor, I suspect she would have been titled saint.
