Apparently, the British version of "Who Wants to be a Superhero" is vastly more awesome. ...but only insofar as it makes children cry on camera. The rest of the show probably sucks even more.
Quote: "Thirteen children cast in the reality program are competing to have their character made into a comic strip. Each one child is eliminated by being "powered down," but only after a panel of judges have ripped apart the child's superhero performance. Which is a great way to encourage imagination and creative thought - by telling children their ideas are crap. So far two children have broken down on camera when their characters were cut or "powered down." "
To be honest, I did watch the first season of the American series - in my defense TiVo is a wonderful ally at 5PM these days now that there's no syndicated reruns of Family Matters and Saved by the Bell in that 5 to 6 timeslot - and I found myself mildly entertained. It was enough to sell me on some of season 2, though I eventually gave up due to lack of "Fat Momma." The fact that there is a British version at all is tempting in theory, since I tend to find British humour very funny; however, as a person who hates kids, I could not stand to watch the same show if the "stars" were 20 years younger.
...Even with the promise that they will cry at the end.
