Home Improvement - The Beddenning Part 2: Electric Bugaloo

Apr 15, 2008 07:56

In an unexpected bout of inspiration, I have actually acted upon my goals delineated in my last post.

Following a bit of online research during the afternoon, I took a journey to Bed, Bath, and Beyond after work yesterday. This place was much more "and beyond" than I have ever seen. They even sold candy and deodorant. I am not kidding. Despite the overwhelming frivolities, the store did offer an impressive selection of sheets, bedding, and curtains.

At zach_c's suggestion, I kept a particular eye out for Microtech sheets. Three things were learned. First, no matter the thread count, I still do not enjoy the course feel of Sateen. Second, Egyptian cotton on the other hand feels fantastic - its comfort increasing exponentially as the thread count rises. Third, Zach knows his shit when it comes to linens 'n similar "things" (You see what I did there?). Microtech sheets are awesome. At only 250 thread count, I don't know how they do it, exactly, but I was an easy sale. These things have got just a great blend of softness and elasticity, while also advertising the ability to wick away sweat and moisture. I say, "let the wicking begin."

I then spent an hour picking out a new bedspread, curtains, and choosing sheet color to match. I think I've done well, but it's better seen in the following pictures.

I must note that the flash made everything look much shinier than it actually is.

I have to admit, I am rather pleased with myself. As I was explaining to murdercitydevil, I really hate shopping. I get an idea of what I want, and when I don't find exactly that, I get irritated. I then pick three or so items that are similar to my visualization, and in the process of deciding between them, ultimately hate them all. If you are a sales representative, come nowhere near me in this state.

In conclusion, duvet covers are funny things. Not only because they should be pronounced "dove it," as Mike pointed out, but because I literally had to crawl inside of this one to stuff it with my former, less awesome comforter. It was weird.

productivity, house
