July contest winners

It’s time to announce the winners of the Snape Art contest for July. sigune was the creator of the theme for this round and also the judge.

When Vocalion proposed that I judge the entries for the July ArtPad contest and pick a winner, I was fully confident that I would find the task relatively easy. I had set very specific contest rules (I thought), and I hoped they would help me a great deal with my selection. However - they didn’t. There was always something I liked - the colours, Snape’s mouth, the trick, the expressions; and the paintings were all funny! *sigh*

So I have torn my hair out, viewing and re-viewing all the entries and moaning that it is really quite impossible to promise drawings to everyone :o). I have decided, in the end, to harden my heart and pick *one* winner and *one* runner-up who get a drawing each (if they should like one, that is), and to give honourable mention to a few particular favourites.

Honourable Mentions
Cutest Severus: Steph (Look at his eyes! They’re so sweet!) http://artpad.art.com/?ikmg811j11z8
Most Artistic Severus: Apisa_b (Schiele couldn’t have done better. Oh, this is a wonderful Snape!) http://artpad.art.com/gallery/?ijh8j7kmtqs
Original Background Adaptation: SeaIsleWitch (I adore the palm tree and the waves!) http://artpad.art.com/gallery/?ikmpra12g2jk

Runner-Up:vanityfair00 with Slippery Snape. Snape’s scowl ™, the expression on vanityfair’s own face, the colours - they stole my heart. And then there is the simple but oh so efficient ploy of the banana peel. I imagine that a schemer like Snape, always on the lookout for complicated plots, might just be taken in by something as insignificant as a peel, and … there he goes, then. Kudos, vanityfair!

Winner: grainne’s Indy!Grainne. I could not help myself: I found this combination of Severus Snape and references to Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade simply irresistible. Apart from eliciting my sympathy with the premise (cheers for grainne’s idea of an interesting museum collection!), the painting is well-executed, and Snape looks as if he doesn’t exactly mind the intervention… I particularly like how grainne exploits the ArtPad medium, doing the backdrop and rudimentary characters first and keeping the details - and the joke - for last. Kudos, grainne!

Vocalion here. Well, there you have it. Grainne, I leave the selection of August’s theme in your quite capable hands, and the daunting task of judging it. Of course, you are free to accept or decline. You may also opt to host the next round on your own LJ. I would like to see this continue and turn into a moveable feast, so to speak.

Congratulations to everyone. Thank you all for contributing your drawings, and for joining me in having a little fun with Snape.

Winners may contact sigune directly through her LJ, or by clicking on her SH bio page and contacting her via e-mail. If you have not yet discovered Sigune’s work, she writes as engagingly as she draws, so please check out her stories.
