In an otherwise sensible conversation about STEM subjects, the value of overseas students, and encouraging interest in sciences in schools, some woman has called in to talk about her (South African born) son's experience as a graduate in aeronautical engineering. Cause of irritation: not the part where she pointed out that he could earn four times as much in the same post in Australia (if that's true then I assume he will be on the next plane to the promised land of employment) but the part where she was explaining that because he's currently earning less than £40,000 a year as a consultant he can't even think about getting married and buying a house.
So... many... things... rarrrrr!
