Brief reflection on NaNoWriMo

So there are times when I sit down to write and I find myself wanting to do anything but.  I organize my files, I look up trivia related to research for the story, I clean my apartment...  Dishes are still losing out to writing, so that's a shame, but at any rate, I've been trying to identify why this has been happening.

Part of the issue, I feel, is that I'm getting tired of building up to the story that I want to be telling, but I can't get there without writing the part I'm at now.  Sure, I've heard the advice to "write around" what you don't know or to skip ahead and come back to things... but I have a really hard time trying to do that.  Most of my writing centers around figuring things out as I go along... and if I cut out that step, I'm cutting out new directions to take the story.

On the upside, I think I've hit a point where I can introduce a lot of new characters (or at least have the option to write other characters than what have been introduced, that is) and really build up the story the way I've been planning on.  This is enough to get me excited fro writing it again, and that should help a lot.  That's not to say that my apartment won't find itself cleaned at strange intervals, but hey, those things need to happen, too.
