AUGH! I shouldn't have come back to my parents' house so soon. I'm dying of boredom here. (If anyone wants to drive to Chattanooga and rescue me for a few days, it would be much appreciated :) ) I went out today to go to my favorite coffee shop and do stuff on the internet and drink coffee and perhaps even write a bit only to find out that my favorite, if mildly grungy, coffee shop has been replaced - a victim of gentrification - by a snooty wine bar/coffee type place. It still has wireless, but alas no couches. I'm disappointed. One of the few cool things left in this town (no the aquarium isn't cool) is now gone. Whee. Yay rich white people buying out anything that resembles culture, crushing it, refurnishing it with shit from wal-mart or pier 1 or wherever else the SUV drivers shop, and trying to pretend they've made it better. At least Reno was ok with being trashy. Speaking of SUVs and cars with bad gas mileage, I test drove a new VW rabbit today and I must say I was disappointed. It handled no better than my friend's old Jetta and got *worse* gas mileage. How do you make a tiny little coup get as bad of mileage as my mother's giant tank (aka "the Corporate Death Mobile")? Ask the Germans. It was fun, but if I'm only going to get 20 mpg, I'm going to at least have comfortable backseat passengers and a large trunk. Not that I was ever going to buy one, as I leave in eight days, but still my curiosity was not satisfied, but rather crushed by the weight of this car's potential for wasting gas. Bleh.
On the upside, I've been working at my dad's office doing filing work for the past few days, so my money situation is looking relatively up, and there are only EIGHT MORE DAYS!!! Whee. I'm getting a bit nervous of course, and I'm getting a bit sad about leaving my friends, but I talked to Colm today for a while and I'm so ready to get to see him. His mom even said that she was looking forward to meeting me 'cause she's heard so much about me. I'm just ready to get out from under my parents' thumbs. Really, for the most part I'm happy. Just venting here.
Hope all is well for y'all, wherever you are, and if you're in Georgia come and save me, please!
